My husband wants to order some from Ideal poultry. Does anyone have some Ideal malays? What type of temperment do they have, and can they fly? Any information you can pass along will be very appreciated!

I have bantam malays...not from Ideal...they fly very well as this breed is more closely related to the wild birds. Plus remember these are gamebirds. The roos tend to be gamey and wnt respect and don't put up with much from other roos. I love them...them seem more intelligent than other breeds and more able to fend for themselves and take care of stuff

I wasn't impressed with the malay from Ideal. I found them lacking in size, type, and vitality.

If you can find an honest breeder of them, that'd be the way to go. Good quality ones are quite rare, as there aren't many known breeders. They take up more space than traditional layer type chickens, eat lots of food, take longer to mature (2 - 3 yrs), and lay only a few eggs per year.
