I have heard that you can tell at about a week ( when the wing feathers are a half inch to one inches long ) if they are male or female by the feathers. You are looking at the flight feathers. It has worked for me every time! If you look at the wing feathers, if there are long feathers with shorter feathers its a hen. If there are only long feathers then you have a rooster. This does not work with some breeds like my partridge cochin hen that I could not tell as she only had long feathers but on my Golden sexlinks, Jersey Giants, Ameraucana, Newhampshire and polish I could tell right away.

Hope This Helps

Woooooaahhh !! remember this thread ! Do you know what I really want to see ? An update picture of Jossanne's Sultans !!

My sultans . . . went through a rough patch . .

One died and the other got it's leg feathers completely pecked off and lost a toe .. .. . . -____-

Hope hers did better than mine

Mine are doing pretty well. I've got a pair. Neither has a spectacular crest, but they're both darling. They're always filthy, but I'll see if I can get a picture soon.

Marshmallow is a Sultan from a feed store that purchases from Ideal.
Hes/shes only 9 1/2 weeks in this picture.
