I'm GLAD my 'scovies aren't laying. I have about 20 hens right now, and in weather like today (-11 with windchill) the eggs would likely freeze and not be edible. I THINK one of my 3 WH hens is laying - and so far have been either very dirty or cracked from extreme cold.
No, I'm hoping for warmer temps before I let them start a clutch! Once it gets above freezing regularly, I often leave dummy eggs in their nest. I then collect their eggs whenever I find them. Once they go broody on the dummy nest, I stuff the eggs under them. That way, they never freeze if it gets too cold one night.
