Anyone here been in the - ROTC - ?

Quote:
ROTC - Reserve Office Training Corps. The general term for most everything ROTC related.

JROTC - Junior ROTC. Offered in high schools. It is essentially a military science class with drills and leadership training. My Dad is a Navy JROTC instructor, so if you have any detailed questions I can ask. He also was a CO (Commanding Officer) of a Navy ROTC while he was still active duty.

AFROTC - Air Force ROTC.

NROTC- Navy ROTC.

AROTC - Army ROTC.

Oh, Im eyeing the JROTC...My mom said it would be a great experiance for me..!! and i belive she's right

I took JROTC as a freshman in high school and didn't have the best experience. My teacher was not the greatest. We didn't learn much or do anything really. He always took off points for not shaving my head.

I was in jROTC... it starts in High School, then becomes ROTC in college. It has HUGE opportunities!! Just jROTC under your belt will get you a promotion right out of boot camp. Cant remember if its an E2 or E3... ROTC with college gets you officer. Lots of scholarship opportunities, I've also know friends that were technically in the Navy, being paid to go to college. They didn't do boot camp until after they graduated and went in as an officer Not sure how it works, but it does.

Even if you don't intend on going into the military, its still is a great advantages. My path was always college bound, but I did the jROTC, and have never regretted it. It becomes a close knit group through HS. And many years later, I am still friends with several of them.

JROTC is not for everybody. Some people really like it and some people hate it. My son tried it for one semester, then got out. We knew it wasn't for him with his personality but he had to learn for himself. It does give you an insight into what the military is all about. I don't know about your school, but it could be substituted for a required course, physical education, in his high school.

I went though 1-1/2 years of ROTC in college, then went into the Army, back when draft numbers were important. It did help since I knew how to drill and some of the other stuff. It gave me a head start and I achieved rank a little faster and had life a little easier in basic training.

I think it is worth checking out. You are not making a lifetime commitment and you gain experience in life.
