anyone here get a predator they cant identify?

    a guy i know claims he saw a hyena like animal slash his horse said he saw nothing like it before

    first i told him hyenas dont use their claws and they dont exist here in north america but he says he got a good look at it and that it looks like nothing but a hyena

    has anyone else here had strange animals that you cant identify attack your livestock?

    Never. Although I have had some mangy animals that are difficult to ID due to the lack of identifying hair. A mangy animal looks very dissimilar from its healthy counterparts. He probably saw a mangy coyote or wolf.

    but could either of those animals slash up a horse with their claws? i didnt think they had sharp claws?

    As you stated "...hyenas don't use their claws...", so I am inclined to think that if your friend is not completely pulling your leg, then the horse was slashed by teeth rather than claws.
