Anyone here speak "Duck"?

I have potty mouth rouens and runners. When i come home it's begging for food time, then they run right back down to the lake.

They truly are sweethearts, they are just going through a "bratty phase". Elliot has been trying to be tough lately...its cute. Just another side of their goofy personalities. I could seriously watch them all day. They are always good for a laugh. Love em'

i've been outside putting up roofing panels and watching the ducks as i work. There are two girls in particular who do the neck thing with each other. It's my blue runner and the blue swedish. They get right next to each other and take turns turning their necks to the side then down, then the other one does it, then they switch off again - making low quacking noises as they go. They almost always do it when they're walking together. It looks like they're gossiping, actually. They are all a hoot. i love them!

My Rouen hen does it as a warning to the others to back off, give them space. When my runner was still a just a few months old, he would follow them EVERYWHERE. One day he didn't give them the space she demanded and chased him around the barn. In my flock, it is a dominance/warning gesture. Only the hen does it, but then again, she is kind of a b****.

I think the first type of bobbing you mentioned is flirting.

But, I never knew about the other kind of bobbing until I read your post. So, I decided to keep an eye out for it. I saw a female duck in a group of ducks doing it very subtly and when she did it, the other ducks started moving in the direction she was bobbing towards. It looked like a leading type of thing, telling others where to go or to follow her. It's a little different than the head-bobbing I see when they flirt, much more subtle.
