Hi just joined a few days ago I’m from the Essex/Suffolk border originally but now in North Wales near Denbigh, I used to have a flock of 13 but had to give them away when I moved so I’ve got no chickens at present getting everything ready to get them after the Lockdown

Hi all, I just wanted some advice from people in the UK. We have 7 hens and my 10yo son has obtained 16 fertile eggs a couple of weeks ago and I have a few questions...

Out of the 16 eggs how many are likely to hatch?

Ideally i would like the hens to look after the chicks themselves if possible?

I assume that its now late in the year to be having chicks? Is there anything that I should be considering to help them?

If the hens aren't broody now, you can't be assured they will sit on the eggs.
Do you have an incubator?

Well then you should get a good hatch rate if the eggs aren't too old.

I would just mark the fertile eggs under the hens in case they are the same color as those your birds are laying so you can remove volunteers.
Other than that, the hens do all the work.

Great, we've done that. Will a heat lamp be needed or will we need to keep them indoors for a period of time or will the hens simply do everything?
