Hey there!

I may be very close to you - just about 40 plus miles West and North of Albany just outside of Johnstown. Where are you at? I have bunches of chickies and a bunch of Chickens - we over-wintered this year and we learned ALOT! Hope you did okay with the rain and snowmelt we're having.

11 Barred Rocks, 9 mixed Buff OrpingtonsxJersey Giants x Delawares, 2 Bantam Cochins (Just got them yesterday) a load of babies - some in onesy twosies of: Splach Blue Maran, Fr Black Copper Maran, Blue Jersey Giants, Giant Cochins, Delaware Giants, Buff Orpintongs, Blue Orpingtons, Pumpkin Hulsey Game Fowl, Ducks, a couple Quail, Gold Laced Wyandottes and probably 10 chicken breeds in the brooder with 8 Red Shaddle Yokohama eggs on their way here from the Country of Malta. Whew! I had a lot that didn't hatch in the onsey twosie groups - mostly due to snafu's along the way - out of town for a few days and just when a bunch were due to hatch the incubators ran out of water since everyone here thought someone else was supposed to keep up with it. Needless to say they now all know the importance of keeping up with the humidity levels - I think I lost a good twenty chicks when I checked the eggs when I got back.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but did you go through APHIS to import your eggs? If not, did you realize that Malta is NOT on the list of countries that are free from Exotic Newcastle Disease? There are import laws for a reason. I don't like the idea of a 30 day quarantine, but it's necessary to prevent the spread of diseases that we don't have here.
Here's a link explaining END: http://www.aphis.usda.gov/publications/animal_health/content/printable_version/ada_ahend.pdf

Of course, if you are importing legally --- that's great & very cool!

Hi!

I HOPE that he's importing these legally! I bought them on Ebay and they are supposed to all legit and all. I was in contact with the Seller of the eggs since it has been about two weeks since I ordered (maybe three) and he says I should still have some hatching and because of the importing it takes a bit longer to get to the US. I will look at that link later today - thanks so much for sending it. Hatching started here yesterday and is progressing nicely! Two Silver Phoenix and one rockin and rollin egg along with scritchy sounds from a couple others! Yay and oh so cute!

I do have another question...since these are eggs I would assume he will wash them before shipping in order to not pass along the disease in any fecal matter? I will email the seller and question him about it. If he did not as soon as I receive them they will get a washing (light but disinfecting) left to dry and then incubated. Otherwise can an egg that is incubating pass it on if it hasn't yet been born?

Fyrekitten,

I had to look up what a Red Saddled Yokohama was. They are cool looking birds. Good luck on your hatch. I would love to see pics when they pip.

I looked up Yokohama eggs on ebay. It took some searching, but I found your seller. It is definitely illegal to import eggs from Malta without permits & going through APHIS. It is unlikely that APHIS would allow it anyway since Malta is NOT on the list of countries free from Exotic Newcastle disease. Washing the eggs won't do anything to fix the potential health hazard.

Please do the right thing! Contact ebay immediately to report this and & Paypal to dispute your transaction. Contact the seller to cancel the shipment. It's not just your flock at risk if they carry a disease, it's ultimately all of our flocks. J

ust because ebay is legit, doesn't mean that sellers doing stupid things don't slip through the cracks & sell to people that don't know the laws. I would LOVE to go on ebay UK & buy a dozen chocolate Orpington eggs.... but it's illegal unless you pay a boatload of money to have the seller's flock tested, a vetrinary official sign off on the testing & import and export fees -- among other things. It's hundreds just in government fees.

Wow!

Thanks TigerLily! I will contact ebay and let them know. I saw that they shipped through US Customs but I wonder how he was able to do that. I will also contact the Seller and see what his dealio is. I DON'T believe in Shady dealings at all and when I first went on and ordered the eggs in the bid it looked like he was in Malta in the States since he mentioned it took longer to ship to the US. Imagine my SURPRISE (buyer beware) when I went back re-read it wondering where my eggs are and saw that it was the COUNTRY of Malta. Anyway, I will do the right thing since I don't believe in doing things illegally or impairing our flocks here in the US and especially all our precious babies.

Thanks for checking on this - being new to the game I just didn't notice that they were out of Country until it was just too late and then I wondered if there was just a different law for shipping eggs.
