I can answer that. Sandy is awesome. She is very informative and helpful and has a passion for orpingtons and she lives in..

edited to say: I guess I shouldn't be the one putting her business out there.

Im up here in the eastern panhandle.. right outside Martinsburg. We're having a WV chickenstock at the end of April up here if y'all would like to join us. Bring some birds or eggs or chicken crafts to sell or just come and hang. I know it's a haul but if you're feeling like a road trip

That brings back a funny memory.

The last time I traveled with birds was nearly 5yrs. ago when we moved. About twenty ducks crammed into a huge wire dog crate, a couple of smaller plastic travel crates and an old rabbit hutch, all sitting on a trailer, flying up I-79 at 70 m.p.h.

The entire 2 hour drive, hardly any other cars got behind me and if they did, they were WAY behind me. I never could figure out why everyone was staying so far away from my vehicle because the three dogs, two cats, bird cage, and fish tank in the back of the SUV were blocking my view. My dad, who was hauling another load of our stuff and eventually caught up with me, wouldn't stay behind me either. He was clearly laughing and pointing as he sped up to get around me.

It wasn't until we got to the new house that I learned what was going on. Apparently, when ducks do their normal projectile poop in 70 mph winds, it can fly pretty far and cover vast distances. Plus, winds that strong can cause molting ducks to go nearly bald. Guess everyone who was unfortunate enough to end up behind my car that day was pooped and feathered.

With all the critters in the car and on the trailer it had to look like Jed and Ellie May Clampett moving to town. Yeeeeeeeee Hawwwwwww

My family and I love the state fair. We try to attend every year. It is a country girl's holiday. Horse shows, draft pulls, harness racing, 4H galore, country fare, carnival rides, displays, etc. They have just posted a few of their concert dates for the fair this year.

Nothing I plan on buying a ticket for yet but here you go:

As they say...Hope to see ya at the fair!

who ever lost all them chickens (poor chickens ) to preditors better give it up untill you can learn how to protect your birds thats to many to loose ....im sorry thats pertty bad to feed the varmets silkies like crazy
eather eat them your self or stop raising them to feed the racoons
Just fill the holes with chicken wire or cow fence

I'm in WV too. Inwood in Berkeley county. I'm just a translplant...but LOVE the people and the scenic beauty!!! Everyone at work thinks I'm crazy because I wanna move further out into the 'country'...like out in Morgan county...get some real 'land'!!! One day....I'll have my MANY acres....and goats....and many more chickens!!! Maybe I should change my career path to be a vet or something? lol

HI,

We are very new but wanted to let everyone know we are in Capon Bridge, WV out in Hampshire County. We are going to be having a small flock like 4-6 Buff Orp's if we can locate some local. We will be ready for them around the end of June.

Anyway just wanted to say hi, have nice night

Brian and Kim

I saw on the news the terrible flooding southern WV is facing. My thoughts and prayers to those affected by the raging water and horrible aftermath. Are there any BYCers in that area?

I started to write this before and it disappeared into cyberspace, so if it turns up twice, please excuse me.

I am not in southern West Virginia, but yes, it is very bad there. Everyone down there needs all available prayers.

I am in Northern WV, sort of between Morgantown and Fairmont, near Fairview, if you know where that is.

I have R.I. Reds, a few Buff Orpingtons, a few Banties, some Guineas, and a number of Peafowl. This summer a bunch of Welsummers and a few more Banties and a few Cuckoo Marans are coming.

I just started a little flock of beautiful Wheaten Ameraucanas from birds that lay the absolutely most lovely clear blue eggs you can imagine, so I am a little excited about that.

Does anyone here in WV know of ANYONE with a female turkey? I am really trying to find one. We have a male Blue Slate, just a pet, but he desperately needs a lady friend. I would be so grateful if you knew of one.

Re preditors. Our worst problem is raccoons. Nothing lately but they are a big problem. We have also had foxes and hawks and the neighbors' dogs.

I know nothing about it, just saw the ad in the ad bulletin and I think I'm going to go but I'd love to find out more information about it.
