Anyone in WV???

Hey everyone, I didn't even know WV's had their own little spot here on the forum.  Glad I found it. /img/smilies/big_smile.png

Anyhow, I'm a life-long WV'er and currently live near Clarksburg.  Moved up here nearly five years ago from Elkview.  I've also lived in Beckley, Elkins, Oak Hill, and Valley Bend.

Hello Bellschick, how long u had your chicken family? I'm a newby, got my first girls in early June. Started with 7 chicks unfortunately 5 were cockerels. Swapped the guys for girls at th Tractor Suppy animal swap. Then picked up a couple that were being neglected...OH Lord help me!!! lol I now have 17 in my little family! So how did you get started??

My husband and I bought 4 acres of land and turned it into a mini farm. 50 chickens. I sell eggs. 2ornery goats and 3 pigs and my big yeller lab. Oh and my sun conure, he is a house bird I have had for 11 years. The farm we have only had 2 years and loving every minute of it!!!

You know about the Farm animal swap at the Tractor Supply in Clarksburg don't you? Just incase you don't: third weekend/Saturday only of each month from March thru October, held in parking lot at Tractor Supply (not affiliated in anyway to TS itself), you can buy or trade chickens, Ducks, Turkeys, Geese, Rabbits, Goats, sheep or mini horses. Also other Small animals. It's a great place t meet and greet other persons interested in farming and animals.

Thanks for info on tractor supply swap! Didnt know about it. Sounds like fun to me.
No problem. I didn't know about them either until I happened t head that way for food on a day they were having one. You have to know your fowl when you go there though. Me being a gullible newby, I've bn hornschwoggled a couple times. Picked up a couple RIR pullets only to find out they were growing beautiful green tail feathers and spurs. Same day picked up two 1yr old Aracona hens, got them home and for the past 4 months only one lays the other is "past her prime", and yet another time was told those two sweet tiny litte black chicks were Plymouth Rocks... I still haven't figured out what they are (15 wks later) but definitely NOT Rocks! Possibly Easter Eggers??? At any rate be alert t those who are out t prove you th fool.

Those kind of liars should b exposed and banned from there. Thanks for the warning butI dont know my fowl either. Sounds like we newbies should stick together and learn all we can.....soon. lol

That's what I'm trying t accomplish...learning as much as I can as quick as I can. Thanks t the swap I learned not t trust too much. I love going there though, will probably take Redman up there in th spring but I don't hold much hope, Roosters are a dime a dozen up there. Anyway keep in touch maybe we can learn from each other's blunders. Lol
