Anyone in WV???

They are Cayuga/Blue Swedish mix. The incubator is a Farm Innovator with the automatic turner and a fan. So far I am not impressed with this incubator. It was extremely hard to get the temp right. Both thermometers they provided where useless. I'm not sure the hygrometer was accurate either. But I tried to keep the humidity around 55-60. I increased the humidity at hatching to around 65. After the first few had trouble I increased to 75. They still couldn't make it out on their own but it may have been too late. Also I filled the little water wells provided full and that was as high as the humidity would go. Please share about the misting. I am curious to see if that would help. I wrapped the eggs I helped in a wet paper towel and they were able to come out the rest of the way on their own.

The Farm Innovator is known to have temp fluctuations. I am helping someone with theirs FI incubator right now and so far chicks are developing, which is a first. We put in a digital thermometer with hygrometer and just had to tweak the temps to keep them stable.

I will let you know how the misting works. They are due to hatch Saturday, so hopefully everything goes well.

Sending happy hatching vibes your way~~~~,

I would like to know more about the misting. I have not heard about this before. I have one now that I think is having trouble getting out and question humidity. I am in southern WV close to the VA boarder

Well I have pips today on my duck eggs so I'll know by tomorrow if it has made a difference. They are due to hatch tomorrow. All I did was mist them lightly once a day. It's supposed to keep the shell supple so they don't have such a hard time getting out and also increases humidity. If you have ever assisted then you know how hard the shell can get. I'm crossing fingers. :0)
