Anyone in WV???

I'm in Huntington. Welcome to BYC. Ducks are fun! I really enjoy mine. I just hatched a few this weekend.

To everyone else, I had 4 ducks that hatched out of 5. The 4th one was too weak so we had to put it down and the 5th one didn't even make it out. Three of them hatched very well with no trouble. So not sure what the problem was or even if there was one. I put more in the bator. :0) we will see.

I've got the same circulated air incubator. Never even paid attention to the thermometer/hygrometer on the bator since it said for reference only. Bought an indoor/outdoor thermometer for $1 and a hygrometer on clearance for $2. I've had good hatch rates for the past couple of years- any low hatch rates were due to other issues. The ones on the bator are usually way higher than the actual temp and humidity way lower. I've heard of some folks putting in 3 thermometers and going by the average. Hope yall find a way that works for you:)

I had seven ducklings hatch from the last batch and am currently keeping them in my upstairs bathroom. They are so stinky and messy! Just wondering if anyone had any good ideas for keeping the broader cleaner and dryer with ducks? I have tried several different things like a splash guard bowl that the watered sits down in. I have tried newspaper, wood shavings, and paper towels. Also has anyone used an outdoor chick brooder during cold temps and if so how was it constructed?

This is my homemade brooder box. At this point I had not yet added the chicken wire. It is a 4'x6' box made of 3/4" plywood. I added 8" tall sides to keep the bedding in th box instead of on my carpet. I used 2" PVC pipe to make brackets t hang the heat light from, and for a sheet to drape over it once the bitties began t test their new wings. I added a (4'2") round "tree" branch and placed it crosswise and secured it to each side so they have learned to climb up on a roost for the night. I have 20 very happy little chicks of various breeds in the Brooder, and moving in another 14 by this evening. The best part about the way it's constructed is I can easily remove the PVC pipe and take it outside to my chicken shed when the weather warms just a little more.

That would be awesome! =) I wish I could get all my flock locally without buying from hatcheries, but the more exotic breeds are so hard to find around here. I love chickens with speckles!! =D
I will have Mille Fleur Duccle hatching eggs for sale next week. My seven hens are laying about 4 a day so things are going well. I am asking $25 per dozen, and as long as they keep laying I will throw in some extras with it. Let me know your thoughts on if or when you might want them and I will give you directions to my place outside of Morgantown.

I also have some Blue Laced Red Wyandotte birds in the breeding pen and I am checking fertility on those. They should be fertile soon. $40 per dozen if interested when they are available.

No shipping yet, pick up or meet in Morgantown only.

Happy Spring
