I was looking for a fun inexpensive hobby for my family and we have been trying to do geocachine - my sister in law does it with out a GPS and they are loving it when the find the caches but only find half of what they search for. I have a GPS but we haven't been successful to date.

Just wondering if there are other GEOCachers out there in Chicken forum land.

If you haven't but want info: www.geocaching.com is the website. Or google Geocaching. It has been around for about 10 years.

I did it once. Maybe I'll do it again sometime.

I was thinking about doing a chicken geocache - not with live chickens of course but fun chicken related kind of stuff. That is if I can find my first cache and then I plan to try to host a cache.

I think this Geocaching is such a fun way to get everyone in the family out exploring together.

We are total novices and have yet to find our first cache. (I carry around a box of treasures in case I do find one) I tried my car garmon and struck out then I got a geomate Jr which I thought would be great but I am either using it incorrectly - (not sure how because it is suppose to be pretty easy and the directions make it seem totally easy but out in the field it pointed us in one direction and then back where we came from.)

Anyway. It is a lot of fun.

My Sister in law and her boys are finding Nano and micro caches everywhere they go and without a GPS which I think is really clever actually.

DH and I geocached for a while, then he wouldn't do it with me anymore. I haven't really wanted to do it by myself, and now my feet hurt so bad that I rarely walk anywhere I don't absolutely have to.

I just recruited a new member to our Geocaching team, TeamWoW! We've hit about 20 in the last couple of weeks, but are going after a bunch more. My classes Travelbug got lost so we are going to send out a new one and I'm looking for a Cacher far far away to mail it to to get it started!

Well I am in Florida and My sister in law and nephews are very active geo cachers and they are in California - I also know the person who tends the Geo Cache at Pt. Higgins School in Ketchikan Alaska.
How far is far - unless you mean out of the country and we have friends in Bavaria.
