Anyone know 'bout training pups?

get a doggy wrap- it comes off when he goes outside- he will not like peeing on himself- and also correct him whenever he starts 'squaring up' to lift his leg-

Keep him on a leash inside (with the wrap) and take him out when ever he tries, praise outside-

If you can lift him often being picked up seems to stop the flow...

I have a Corgie that just started this nightmare fairly recently.
He's been to the vet and all is fine.
He is also fixed and has been since the second week we got him. (He was about 3 and a half months old at the time.)
He is a leg lifter. And apparently was born with a lifted leg...

Vinegar will kill a lot of the smell. But you have to blot up as much as is humanly possible before you saturate the area with vinegar. Let it sit til its practically dry. I dont know if this will affect fabrics or carpet. Mine seem fine but who knows how things will look in a few years.

Also, I crate Max the Corgie when I cannot have my eyes completely fixed to him. Or he goes outside. Its like housebreaking all over again...

I'm interested to see how those wraps work. Is there a name they go under?

Has anybody tried placing his feeding bowl in the same area he's been marking in?
Just an idea.
I feel your frustration!

I agree with the crate training. We have a little Tsi Shu poodle mix boy and he was horrible when he came to us at 5 years old - he peed everywhere! I did the crate training just as the previous poster said. Now I can say the word Potty, open the door, he does his business in a certain place we've designated for 'potty', and comes right back in. We're on 11 acres with no fences so I know it works!

I googled 'dog pee wraps' they are called 'belly bands'

A breeder friend of mine uses them on exactly one of her dogs- the rest all have good manners. (He's also the 'alpha' of the dogs, under her and unaltered even though he's not breeding any longer (he's 9 or 10 IIRC)

I found other tips on 'this' site.

My female Yorkie pees on every rug I have. I have had to get rid of my large living room rug and now only have small washable rugs. We do put her in a crate at night and take her outside at least 3 times a day. But if we "forget" just once, we pay for it. I just dislike dog/cat pee anywhere but where it should go...outside. It is hard to live with & I may not be able to keep her because of it, sadly. I would like my home to look and smell like a decent home and not like pee...ever.

I hope you find the answer to your problem, because I have yet to find the answer to mine. I will be "watching" this thread.

She's too small to go out only three times a day, please conciser taking her out at least 5 times a day- she has a itty bitty bladder, about the size of an egg- if even that large.

Remember YOU can do whenever you want- she has to wait for you, if she constantly has to hold it longer then she should she could develop UTI's.

It is very hard to place little dogs that 'have accident' problems in good homes.

OK, here's the thing, my guide dog puppy was either crated, leashed or supervised in a fenced area- after he was 100% housebroken he was allowed off leash.

He had a schedule for 'go busy' and a command. Even though he was a lab, and at 2.5 years (when he left us) and he -could- hold it more then twelve hours.

He went out:
~ when we got up
~after he ate
~At human lunch time
~after he ate
~before bed
Also
~any time he arrived from a car to a place (apparently car rides causes needing to go *shrug*)

AND any other time he asked to go out besides... he was put into the crate if he asked to go out but didn't go- he was always taken 'to busy' on a leash and taken to the same area (when in out yard).

If he went, he got verbal and or physical praise.

If he didn't he was returned inside to his create (for 20-30 min) then back on leash.

He was NEVER 'allowed' (yes he managed three times to my knowledge) to lift his leg- he was "intact" but had to squat to pee (easier done as a puppy- knock the leg down (gently) and say no, move away from object he was trying to mark on then told 'go busy') He was not allowed to pee near objects.

He had a grand total of two accidents in the house (after 6 months age) - both human error

I know if my dogs are not crated they easily want to go out probably every 2-3 hours. Of course a couple of these are 6 month old pups. They do hold themselves from 9 pm until 5-6 am. It's like pavlov - once they here the "beep, beep" of the alarm I better throw on my boots and coat and get them out the door. They are all trusted to sleep in our room without a crate at night and they are all 16-20 lbs dogs. We still have accidents on occasion from the puppies but only because WE are misreading their signal. Tucker especially just comes and sits and stares at you and then just gently places one paw on your leg. Sparky comes and barks, but he also barks because he wants food (alllll day long) or just to play - he is really hard to read. Going to try and bell train him.

I would just start all over with the training with your dog. Or if it is marking territory, maybe it is time for a neuter before it is a habit.

Right now they are in the crate because I am cleaning and going in and out with chores and they would want to go out everytime I do. Boy do they have great sad puppy faces

okay you dont have a puppy u have a young teenager dog.it will help to get him neuter . if you have a crate than u will crate train him if not put him in a small floor room without rugs and washable furniture legs.
put the dog in the crate at night so he would have to go pee in that crate if he had too. let him outside around six am. watch him go to the bathroom let him in and be around you
if u feed him in morning just leave the food down for ten minutes let him out 15 minutes later
then around 10 am let him out again then again around 4 hours later let him out usually after a nap.
then 5pm feed him dinner let him out 15 minutes later. set a time at night for him to go out before u lock him up.When u bring him in at night put him up until morning.
i trained 6 month old puppy chi in a month to go outside but he had other dogs that help me train him but i keep him in the kitchen until he was trained boy did that kitchen floor look so clean after a mop it so much lol
my dogs go outs 5 x times a day they go out at 6am 10 am 2pm 6pm 9pm in the morning for 15 minutes other times 30 minutes unless the weather is under 32
two of them sleep in there crate at night my 2`chi
