Anyone know if this is a cock or hen? Thanks

Oh right, thanks. That's interesting, I've never heard of a hen developing spurs before. 'I think it's a he' was definitely trying to crow today, I heard it a few times. Not really loud and not what you'd describe as a 'cock a doodle doo'.. more of a rrrrroooooo sort of noise.... or something like that anyhow

it's a bit confusing.......

Can you please tell me, in what way would the colouring be different in a cockerel? Thanks

Our cockerel started attempting to crow a few weeks ago. It took him a few days to get the whole "cock-a-doodle-do!" out but he did it. He sounded like a goat trying to sound like a chicken who was losing its voice at first. It was really funny!

Hahaha! Yes, they do sound a bit rubbish when they start.... we've had a few before... need to get rid of any cockerels as we live in the middle of a town and don't think the neighbours would appreciate it!

I'd agree it does look like a he. Shame 'cus its a beautiful bird.
There is a decent poultry auction at Cirencester if you want to try to get some money for him. look online for 'voyce pullin'. I think the next one is sept 12th.

It's not so much the colouring, rather the shape of the feathers. Cockerels haeckles and saddles have long pointed feathers (typically) and sickle-shaped feathers as their tails, wheras from the images yours seems to have the blunted feathers of a female. It's entirely possible (and very probable) that, because of its young age this feathering will come through as it gets older.
The colouring could be different in a cockerel but colouring genetics get really, really complicated. I'm still trying to get my head around the basics.

Thanks all for your comments, very helpful. Totally convinced he's a boy, so was taken to a new home. We're in the middle of a town and the operatics that were starting to occur had to be stopped. He has gone to a lady who intends to breed from him, so he should have a happy life with lots of girlfriends.
