Anyone know what kind of plant or weed this is?

Do you live in California?

It looks like the short nettles that grow in fields wild there. This is merely a guess.

Did you ever figure out what the plant was?

Kind of looks like mint.Crush some of its leaves and smell them.Looks a lot like my spearmint patch.

If it's vining it's probably a mint. If not the nettles guess is good bet. You could take some to your ag extension office at the county and they could help.

If it's mint, the roots will also smell intensely of mint. Mint grows from a dense matt of rhizomes. Pull some up, does it have a big mass of feeder roots, rhizomes like grass, or a giant taproot?
