Anyone know what this animal is???????

Now Boyd-- You know what I mean by "they were here first". Groundhogs, not that specific groundhog! And I am not meaning to attack anyone specifically, just trying to get people to realize that it is possible to live WITH wild critters, not necessarily feel that they are invading "your space."

And I think crperdue is right, it's not a hog, but a muskrat. Did you say it had a "ratty" tail? It really does look more like a groundhog though. I thought nurtia only lived in the south.

thats what it looks like to me too.. My uncle has problems with those on his farm. They dig big holes in the ground. He gets rid of them.. cause the holes can cause his cows to break their legs. These do like water.. If you dont get rid of it. You will soon have a large population..

groundhog,,,no doubt, they can make a mess of your property, they are a tasty animal if you get them in the spring, they eat seeds clover and twigs, and garden vegetables, they can mow down row after row of green beans,if you don,t have vegetables and don,t plan on it,,he may not be much of a problem ,and you can pour used motor oil down his den, then place some dirt over top of it,

From the posted P & P Rules:

*Although some ways are not considered ideal to some, it serves the purpose of removing the offending predator. If you have an idea or a helpful comment, please do reply. If it is a sarcastic comment about the disposal or capture of a predator, please keep your thoughts to yourself. We are not here to judge one another on methods or ways and means.

*Compassion will go a long way toward helping to educate and help solve someone's predator problem. No matter the reason, most members' birds are their pets and being a chicken doesn't make it less of a pet than a house cat or companion dog. Please don't lecture or hassle anyone about their losses. Glass houses......

Be careful folks. Boyd has already posted these one time. Remember this is Predators & PESTS, not just predators.

Don't forget- Groundhog=furry 6-7 inch tail, also *Very* tasty!!!
Nutria=rat like tail, only in the deep south, from what I hear also tasty
Yes I know some of you will say "gross!", but coming from a girl raised in Atlanta knowing beef, pork, chicken and turkey, groundhog is my favorite meat! Especially if the Mom in law cooks it! I have also tried, venison, wild boar, bear, wild turkey, rabbit, squirrel and dove. Out here in the Appalachians many, many people grew up poor and don't have much more now. Lots of them still live off the land when they can. Except for the yearly "hog killing" my in-laws buy very little meat. What they kill they eat and they don't usually kill unless it is going to be food. The only exceptions are preditors that are killing their chickens and rabbits. (another food source) They even eat turtle, but I haven't been around for that one yet!

Last year a deer completely ate my garden, so i ate him back.

This year groundhogs are getting too close to the garden, and this is what happen to him. he was yummy.
