I hate it and a won't use it for chicks under 2 weeks old. Couldn't control pasty butt in my chicks. Never had that problem with heat lamps. Than I realised their drinking water wasn't staying warm like baby chicks need it to be..went back to heat lamps for first 2 weeks. No more pasty butt.

I LOVE mine. I have used it with baby chicks, twice so far, and ducklings once. I've never had a problem and it's worked wonderfully. Haven't had any trouble with pasty butt either. Sorry that you had such a poor experience with it.

Put a little ACV in their water, will help with the pasty butt. I have a Brinsea and a Premier, I like the Premier much better.

The Brinsea works fine, but it has the Brinsea logo pressed into the top of the plate. All that does is act as a poop trap and makes it harder to clean. The Premier plate has the pyramid cover that keeps the chicks off.

The chicks I used it with loved it, the legs can even be staggered so it's lower in the back and taller in the front to accommodate taller chicks. Don't have to worry about the temperature getting too hot and killing chicks or burning the house down with a plate, sleep much better at night.

I've used the Brinsea heating plate for two groups of 6 hatchling Silkies, & they love it. I've never had problems with pasty butt & I do check daily during the first couple of weeks. My 3 week old Silkies will use it until they are 6 weeks old. If they are not underneath it, they love to use the top as a roost. I'll be using my brinsea heat plate for all future hatchlings. I'm sorry you've had a bad experience with it. I also use the brinsea incubator for hatching my silkie babies.

Maybe I missed judged it. Vinager helps with pasty butt?
Although I have no scientific data, it seems to help greatly.

I've had a few get really plugged up. I mix up some molasses water and give them that till they get regular again, might have to give them drops from a syringe on their beak till they get regular. Usually takes a few days. Then mix up 1 tsp/quart of Bragg's raw ACV for as long as I can remember. Usually fixes the problem.

only downside I've found with the Brinsea is that their max. capacity estimation is off. The EcoGlow 50 could fit 50 day old chicks. But chicks GROW. We got an EcoGlow 20 for 5 chicks, and they could barely fit in it by 6 weeks old.
