Anyone living off the land?

Well I am glad to hear you guys are getting rain! Gee I read a comment posted earlier on here about cactuses, we have lots here too. And brown brush weeds-LOTS OF THEM!!!!!

My town is not built for rain so when it does rain once a year for a day or two (sporadically not constant) everything floods. There is not enough vegetation to slow it down-SAND everywhere-so mud slides occur and it is dangerous to drive.

Here in western Kentucky last weekend we got 7 inches of rain and they are calling for it again tomorrow. I love the rain , but hate the bad storms we sometimes get. We get a lot of tornado's in our area. Our home place has been hit twice and both times it got partially destroyed. I was in it the last time and it was very scary. We lost our roof and three rooms of our home was destroyed. We now have built us a basement to get in during a bad storm.

Hey Newbie : I'm one of those southern bells u mentioned. I'm from Tennessee. I love the south and its people and I think we are some of the friendliest people u will ever meet. We are very helpful and supportive of our neighbors . We are not judgmental and we don't care what color your skin is. We are God loving people who know to treat people the way they themselves want to be treated. ( I always say practice the golden rule.) I was taught that by my grandmother as a child. She ran a small country grocery store and carried the whole community on a tab. Some people paid her once a year, with their tobacco. Well what I'm saying the real southern states is a great place to live and raise a family. Tell your husband that clan stuff is a dying thing. I have heard them rattle and threaten, but then they never show up. They know the majority of the good southern people want put up with them and there crazy rants. This country is the great country it is today because of all the people from all the different

Oops! Didn't get finished with what I was saying. We are a country of all different country's. We are the great melting pot and that is what makes us great. We all have to stick together to keep this country together and our way of life . We do not need to be fueding amongst ourselves ,but working together and helping our neighbors and making a better tomorrow for us all. This prejudice crap is a exactly that CRAP!

Amen to that Chicken-lady13! Our country is a melting pot. Glad to hear that they-the clan- are not as common anymore. Sorry about your house!!! I have never been in a tornado, although in Colorado we did have them, just not near me.

I like to surround myself with God fearing people so I am glad you have that in your town. We do here too but there are still the druggies and alcoholics-although not many because its a small town.

I also love the rain. And I never minded lighting until I moved here and have witnessed it touch MANY times, once right in front of where I was driving. I prayed while I did a quick u turn and drove home!

I don't like lightning either, but I do think it is beautiful to watch. It is God's fireworks! Its the greatest display! I did however almost got struck by it once. It was the most frightening experiences I have ever had. It is true when they say the hair on the back of your neck stands up. Mine sure did and my ears rung for hours afterwards. It made me almost deaf for awhile. It only missed me by a few feet. I ran in my house and stayed there the rest of that evening.

Hello from NW Georgia!

I own a 1-acre "farm" in the country. I have fruit trees, a nice-sized vegetable garden, and a flock of 32 chickens (for eggs & meat). My dad hunts for deer, and we fish during the summer, so I rarely buy any meat from the store. We are trying to live off the land as much as possible. I'll be planting more fruit varieties this spring, like blackberries & blueberries.

It's amazing how much you can do with just a little bit of land!
