Curious if cost vs pellets. I found this recipe online and thinking of going this route...

There's a pretty good thread going on about feed recipes...

Depends on why you want to make it. For me, cost is a factor. After talking with the owner of the feed store today I question if it would be a good idea to make my own. I'd have to buy hundreds of pounds of ingredients to make it cost effective but then there's the issue of rancidness that the store owner brought up. Especially any oils will go rancid and especially in the heat in the summer.

I just want a truly natural feed, no junk in it. I will mostly let ferment also.

I found an organic cereal online that has hard red and soft white wheat, barley , rye, oats, cornmeal, millet, buckwheat and flax. It's called 9 grain cracked cereal. Was thinking for the chicks just add sea kelp and mashed egg and it would be a good base feed for the first few week. Thoughts? It's by Honeyville and organic.

I live in southwest missouri, and a friend of miine sat down with his feed man and came up with this.
50 lbs of whole oats
50 lbs of crushed soybeans or soybean meal
150 lbs of cracked corn
and a quart of all purpose mineral ( like what you would give to cattle)
