Anyone mix different types of feed?

Crazy how much prices can very! The brand country lane of the chick starter that I get is cheaper than the country lane layer pellets that I get! So is there any reason to feed them layer versus an all flock feed??

I don't think mixing the different feeds into one feeder is really doing anything good for the flock. The birds won't pick out the individual feed that they should be eating, so the hens will be eating some of the feather booster and the rooster will be eating some of the layer feed. Neither one is going to get full benefit from either feed, and around here the feather booster is expensive feed.
Personally, I would just go with an All-flock feed and when you have small chicks set up an area where only the chicks can go to get the chick starter. When the chicks are bigger, then all-flock is fine for them also. I have found that my hens LOVE the chick starter - but it makes sense since it is more expensive than layer feed.
Oyster shell on the side is always a good option. And yes, i have a chicken also who eats more oystershell than she should and gets calcium deposits on her eggs, but I have 2 chickens who lay very thin-shelled eggs without the oystershell.

The biggest difference in the layer type feed vs the chick feed it the calcium amounts.

Are you meaning Country Road feeds or is it Country Lane?
I am not familiar with Country Lane feeds...yet.

Is this it?

For the brand I buy, the All-Flock is 18% protein and the Layer is 16% protein. Chick starter is 18% protein. Layer has added calcium that roosters and young chicks don't need.
All-flock is also OK for ducks, guinea hens, turkeys, ...

For the Country Lane feeds I can't give you much information about their feeds because I can't find it.
Do you happen to have pictures of your feed bag and the guaranteed analysis tag on it?

Three Country Lane feeds I was able to find:

Do you plan on sticking with the Country Lane brand name?
If so then I would stick with the layer feed.
If you want to with to the Nutrena brand all together then I wouldn't complain.
Here are just a few of Nutrena's feeds including their Feather Fixer.

Yes because it is the cheapest feed I can get.
Sometimes the cheapest isn't always the best.
You may want to see if your store carries a non medicated starter/grower feed...your brand CL's starter/grower is higher in protein than it's All Flock feed.
