Deb that was beautiful and that is how I feel about religion too.. it makes me sad and frustrated when people invest so much energy into trying to enforce religious-based views into laws that affect "everyone"... they believe it is for the best but in reality it can make many suffer or inconvenienced in various ways..

Well, I am not sure if I am allowed to comment or not...per the rules, but I will anyway! I don't believe in a religion either. I believe in salvation, and there is a big difference. You can spend your whole life wasting you time on a religion that will get you nowhere. I believe there is a God, who created everything, and deserves our reverence. He also had a Son who died for us, and short of believing in him and trusting in Him Nothing Else Matters.

So was that ok? I have no intention of arguing; just stating my belief!

Chicklunatic of course that is OK! This thread is all about accepting different beliefs. I'm pretty sure that Redux (the OP of this thread) feels the same way you do. She is also very tolerant of the rest of us and we appreciate it!

I think that by the definitions that we discussed here in this thread, your beliefs do fall under the parameters of "religion" as we define it.

You are, however, welcome to share any time you like. I respect your beliefs and your right to have them.

I think that the connection between religion and politics (note that I am not discussing a political stance) is that I view the various political parties and religions the same way - I'm willing to listen before I decide what I think, but I'm not going to accept a particular view as truth before I think about it.

But I've got a lot of friends and neighbors who treat politics the same way as they treat their religion (and, without mentioning parties, one side of the debate is definitely worse than the other) and for many the two are intertwined - their religion dictates their politics.

I agree with the republicans on some issues, the democrats on others, and disagree with both on still others. Some of my views are conservative, some are liberal. I'm not religious at all, but have very strong moral beliefs about respecting the world around us, being kind to others, and acting conscientiously about the way that our actions affect others.
