I've lived in very liberal and educated areas of the US, and I see them there as well. It's sad that there are people who actually believe this kind of stuff.

I have had my own spiritual crisis in life on more than one occasion between being a christian to atheism, to pagan to christian to atheism etc etc

More than anything else though, I believe in Karma. My soul is not clean by any means, and I am working on making it better the next time around. Figure if there is a heaven and hell 'ole splitfoot's got a rite hot seat waiting for me.

My own demons with religion started very young with the beatings of having a bi-racial adopted sister, a gay brother and a gay sister. Of course, having the shortest temper in the school, folks left me alone after a while. Then when my 5 year old was diagnosed with terminal cancer, I sorta lost it. I still struggle with where I stand in the world. What is right, what is wrong, who is teaching the truth, who is just trying to further their agenda's. So if ya'll think I'm harsh at times, this'll be a post I won't repeat as I'm slightly in my cups tonight.

question in general, is there a difference in being spiritual vs non religious? I grew up in a catholic household so of course the guilt association with religion is strong 30 years later.

some people who are non-religious will still feel spiritual. some will not. either way, it's okay. I am spiritual, but my dad is not. I love him just the same. We can be different. We would create our own hell if we couldn't be different, because then we would feel the need to harass someone we love.

I have never ever seen any signs like those posted by Prettiest Frog and KDBeads. The SF Bay Area gets a bad rap for many things sometimes, but your religion, or lack of it, is entirely your business here.
