Anyone on BYC in college at the moment? Come say Hello!

I'm in my senior year of college and have chickens and goats. I lived on campus my freshman year, commuted my sophomore and 1st semester of junior, and living on campus this semester, commuting next semester. I'm about 45 minutes away so If I have classes 3 days a week or less, I commute. I try to take a lot of online courses just so I can be home more. My mom takes care of the animals on the weekdays and I take care of them on the weekend.

My goats are only 3 years old, so I'm hoping in the next few years I'll be able to buy a house with property and bring them with me. I only have a few thousand saved up for a down payment from working summers, but I figure within 6 years I'll be able to buy a house. My mom will keep the chickens and I'll get my own.

When you do start looking for a horse there is a great rescue I found where the people rescue horses from auctions, neglect, etc and bring them back to health 110%. They are a great rescue and would be a great place to adopt if you so choose. They are called Lucas Farm. You can find them on Facebook along with other rescues she quardinates with.

You would love my college (UGA)!! I am a 5th year getting a BS in Avian Biology. All of my major classes are in the Poultry building... classes include: Nutrition, Processing, Repro, Physiology, microbiology and my favorite class, surgery! I have done several surgeries on chickens and seen them through their recovery. They are great patients

. I actually got my chickens from the teacher I do research with. We raised exotics for the new-er students to have hands on experience handling the birds and once they were no longer needed he gave them out to whomever wanted them. I love my chickens Nugget and Nera. My husband was a tad uneasy at first, but now he loves to walk around with one on his shoulder. Our 2 year old son loves them as well. Having chickens in the classroom definitely makes going to school a lot more fun!

UGA is the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. The poultry industry is huge here (and we have the vet school) which probably explains why we have a few majors dedicated to it!

That's too bad your school doesn't have similar programs. What are y'alls majors?

Btw Dracoe, the birds you bred are beautiful!! I'm wanting to get into showing my birds, it sounds like so much fun! Just not sure exactly how to..

I'm getting a degree in Illustration. I'm actually working on a project I finally want to do too! It's a pair of silver laced wyandottes. Hopefully I'll have pictures soon.
Thank you very much :). I started showing from going to my local fair and enteric a few birds a the beginning. Got a bunch of blue rib ions and some best of breeds so I continued with trying to find shows (which has been pretty difficult). Haven't entered into to many but trying to make it a regular thing. That's how I went from having chickens for eggs to making it an obsession haha. It's always fun showing your birds :). It's rewarding when you raise a chicken and your hard work is recognized. I highly recommend it!

I'm a double major, Graphic Design and Marketing. Right now I'm either getting some serious senioritis, or I'm just ready for this semester to be over. I have an assignment and a quiz due by midnight tonight and I'm really considering just skipping it.
