Anyone order Cackle Hatchery's assorted turkey special. $6.55 / poult sounds like a good price for heritage turkeys. If you have, how were they? Do you have any pics?

Also what are grow out times for Bourbon Red, Royal Palm, Black Spanish, and I think Blue Slate was the other one. These are the turkey's in there special. I'm assuming 24-30 weeks?

Thanks!

Don't forget Cackle's price includes shipping. I have been very pleased with my Bourbon Reds and Royal Palms we got there. I think 24 to 30 sounds about right. If you like a smaller bird you can kill early. I have some pics of some carcasses on another thread that are a cross from the BR and RP from Cackle.

We got our Spanish blacks and two Red bourbons from them last year, as a Hatcher's choice since it was so late in the year and was about the same price.

We are wintered over 4 Females and two Males Spanish blacks and the two Red Bourbons.

We butchers at around 26 weeks and had 17 to 18 pound dressed.

For taste we think that the Bourbon Reds are better followed by the Blue slate, last would be the Spanish Blacks.

And they do free range further the Great Whites or BB bronze, the furtherest we found the flock was about 1/4 mile away and would have gone further if we had not found them.

I ordered the assorted heritage turkeys last year plus two BBW, receives 16 Bourbon Reds and 2 BBW, 1BR died at 2 weeks due to picking/bulling/runt. Gorgeous birds 11 BR toms, 4BR hens. Butchered at 30 weeks, understatement to say it is great meat. These aren't the best photos, but it's all I have on this computer. Kept 3 hens and 2 toms for breeding, great personalities, all of my hens even like to cuddle.

That's awesome, I'm really only interested in the Bourbon Reds but I don't want to pay 8-9 bucks a poult. If I order this, I will take my chances of getting almost all bourbon reds as they aren't as rare as the blacks and lavendars/blue slates.

I did see Uch's page... thanks for posting that. $7.00 / poult guaranteed to be Bourbons is a good price. But that $4.53 / poult seems like a heck of a deal. That's about half the price of other hatcheries.

GREAT pictures.... can you post the one of the dressed Bourbon?

Hey Jeff, I ordered Bourbon Reds from Cackle about 2 years ago and I was happy with the size and growth rate of them, but the colors were off on some, there were 2 hens that lived to maturity were more like Buffs than Bourbon Reds, But the tom and the other hen that I got with them were the good dark red. I still have the dark red pair and one of their daughters and when they start laying again I can send you a few eggs if you want, I'll have to see how fertility is first but I'll say 6 eggs for $10- $12 plus shipping.

Here is a pic I already have up loaded of the tom and one of the buff colored hens, ( I have culled out the buff hens now though)

Ya, when they start laying I would definitely take you up on that offer. Let me know when they start to pick up on laying and when fertility gets good.

rareroo, I too would be very interested in turkey eggs. This is my first attempt at them. Living in the Rocky Mountain of Colorado and intent for them is yard art. Let me know when eggs are available. Thanks.
