Anyone preparing for Sandy?

Kaitie09,
That is horrible about your grandmother's house and your aunt and uncle's property, but thank God no one was hurt. Hoping that insurance will be there to help your family repair or replace their losses.

And, great news about that pesky pine tree not falling on anything.

My yard is a mess of leaves and small branches, but I look at it as just doing a regular fall cleanup. The branches will make great kindling in the woodstove. Many others in my county did not fare as well. Trees fell on houses and cars here too, and the huge ocean waves destroyed homes, damaged roads and washed beaches away all along our coast. We're faring better than New Jersey and New York City, but there are individual cases of destruction that are terrible.

This is a storm that a generation will be talking about 50 years from now.

It was dark when I left home this morning so I can't say for sure that all is well. But we never lost power and everything seemed ok - what I could see in the headlights.
I'm looking forward to getting home and checking everything out - letting the pony out and giving the chickens their we-made-it-through-our-first-hurricane-together treat.

Hope everyone else fared well too.

We're already making plans to have it cut down. Here are a few pictures from my grandmother's house. She was very lucky, She was standing at the kitchen window when this tree went down, and a branch was only about 6 inches from her. The first picture was where a huge trellis was that covered a brick patio, and you can barely make out the steps to the deck.

What a mess...so sorry your grandmother has to go through all that, I'm sure she is terribly upset. But as others have said, things can be replaced--people can't! Thank God she is safe. Here in Maryland a man died when a tree fell on his house.

In my area we did very well, didn't even lose power although we had quite a few "blinks" and I was ready with the candles and flashlights. My weatherproofing to the coop and run did the job, and except for a soggy bottom in the run, I'm not facing any storm damage at all.

My chickens are roaming the yard again, although I can tell they are aggravated with me for keeping them in the lockup for two days...lol...

My thoughts and prayers go out to all who are struggling to cope with this storm and its aftermath. Good luck to all of you.

We managed to come through OK... the power flickered a bit but never went completely. Several trees came down but didn't damage anything, and we lost one panel off of the barn roof. People and animals are all fine :).

I went down closer to philly yesterday (on the "Main Line", where most of my clients are) responding to emergency calls, and the roads were a complete mess of downed trees and wires. That's going to take a long time to clean up! I'll be home today cutting up the downed trees here and fixing the pasture fence so that the roofer can get into the barnyard without the goats butting their ladders.

Kaitie09 so sorry to hear about your grandparents property, thank god they were all safe, but I'm sure a little shaken up. As mentioned property can be fixed. Sounds like a lot of us on this thread faired out well, thank god because it could have been worse. Thanks to all the crews who are headed to the east coast to help out, a lot of people really got hit hard.

Sezjasper, I see you're just over in Carrol County, howdy neighbor!!!! I live in Baltimore County right next to Prettyboy, not to far from you. Sounded like you guys in CC faired out pretty well, glad to hear that.

Good luck and be safe to everyone during the clean up phase!!!!

All H Broke loose here in NJ. Princess and I, animals, family and house are fine. No power maybe for two weeks. In a motel tonight using her I pad. Somewhat I effectively. NJ is devastated. In my seventy one years, I have never seen such devastation. Much of the NJ Shore is Gone! Will be back online when possible.

Thank god you and your family are healthy. NJ was hit very hard. From what I hear MD is sending utility trucks your way too.
