Anyone process in Northern IN and other processing questions--in case we have to do it ourselves.

Does anyone know of someone who processes in Northern IN? We can do it ourselves, but since 24 is much more than the 2 batches of 5 that we did last yearm the thought of taking them somewhere and having them returned to us all packaged up sounds very inviting. We are at 8 weeks--so it due to my lack of posting this sooner---we may have to wait until next time. How this processing goes will partially determine if there is a next time.

Also we live very close to city limits, so not in the country at all, what is the best way to get rid of the insides? Last year we just put them in the garbage--which totally stunk by the time they picked it up. but we will have a LOT more waste this time. Since we know we have coons and cats in the area, I really do not want to attack them to my yard since I do have a laying flock also.

Hi! There is a place in Goshen that I've heard people mention. Is that close to you?

We burn the innards and that seems to work really well. That may not be an option for you, though.

I talked to her yesterday. She said $1.95 per bird, and .25 extra if you want the giblets. She puts them in twist tie bags. We've got a batch of 50 coming, and I've been doing surplus roosters every weekend, and I just might be losing the will to process that much.

Simple answer to this: plastic kitchen garbage bag in a 5 gallon pail, line that with a paper grocery sack. waste goes in there and tie it shut when done. toss the whole thing in your deep freeze until the night before your garbage collection and transfer to your garbage can, take to street.

I do this all the time with fish carcasses after fishing trips.
