That mac and cheese idea sounds good... wonder how it would tastes with whole wheat noodles and weight watchers cheese... hmmm that is sounding really good. I am all about fiber
I started trying to control my weight after I weighed myself and realized I was heavier than I'd been at 9months pregnant! So, I hear you. I was in Minnesnowta at the time, so totally get the "freezing" part.
What saved me was workout videos. If you can borrow them from the library - and commit to just doing *5 minutes* every day, you'll see improvement over the long term. When I started, I could only do the warmup and I was winded! So - please dont' feel bad if that's your case too. After a year, I was doing 2 hours of aerobics and just felt energized!
Set aside some space by the tv, just move the couch or whatever you need to, so you can move a bit and do something like a step aerobics (which doesn't take much space) or something like that. Try different videos. Some are fun, some are boring, some are easier than others to understand and some are hard to deal with. So try them until you find your favorites.
Another option for indoors is a stationary bike. They're starting to hit craigslist now. (People buying them for New Years resolutions, and then giving up by spring cleaning.) Put on your favorite music, or put a good book in front of you and just go.
It doesn't really matter *what* you do right now as long as you do a little something every day. And at least one day a week take off and just stretch and nothing more. You need the downtime too!
Also - watch portion control. It's easy to let food get out of control. So watch how much you're eating. I like fitday.com, others like sparkspeople.com but whatever - find a way to track your eating so you know how much you're doing.
And just report in here once a day of one thing you did, to keep you mindful of it.
Welcome! And congratulations for making a commitment to being healthier.
Okay- today, I went for a walk with the dog. We walked almost a mile. .94 at a speed of 3.2 miles per hour. Explored a part of town I'd never been in before. (We moved here last year so there's still a lot of areas that are new to me.)
I second annaraven's sugestion on portion control. It is unreal how screwed up our (most of us) idea of portion is. I never put anything on my plate that didn't go in a cup measure anymore. They serve as my "serving spoons" now. Slow down in eating let your brain "full dial" catch up to your mouth!!!! And I don't eat off a dinner plate anymore, I eat off the salad plate, instead of a half full dinner plate I have an overflowing salad plate trying to psych my own self out, so far it is working.
I did measurements with my trainer this week and I have lost two inches in the hips, two in the bust and one in the waist. Unfortunately, this makes the waist look even bigger, but the inches are gone.
I also walked for 45 minutes to an hour today and did a circuit training class. Lots of ab work, so I will probably be sore. I hate ab work because it is hard; but it is hard because I really need it. I followed up with takeout chinese food, but I still got two hours of exercise in today. My goal is to start tracking food again. I know I do better when I track.
That is a great idea about the exercise videos! Thank you guys! I actually have some Tai bo dvds that my husband bought on clearance and we never opened....
I did walk today though! I need to work on my pantry, right now there is so much junk that is way too tempting! I have decided to cut the carbs way back, and try to stick to a higher protien lifestyle change. Protien is supposed to help balance blood sugars and be healthier. Of course plenty of fresh veggies and fruits! After the snow storm passes I will have to run to the store.
For me "decontaminating" the kitchen was extremely important. If it is in the house I'll eat it, but I won't go to the store to get it. The only snacks I keep in the house are either healthy, or things my husband likes, but I wouldn't eat if I were starving.
