Sounds familiar.
I started trying to control my weight after I weighed myself and realized I was heavier than I'd been at 9months pregnant! So, I hear you. I was in Minnesnowta at the time, so totally get the "freezing" part.
What saved me was workout videos. If you can borrow them from the library - and commit to just doing *5 minutes* every day, you'll see improvement over the long term. When I started, I could only do the warmup and I was winded! So - please dont' feel bad if that's your case too. After a year, I was doing 2 hours of aerobics and just felt energized!
Set aside some space by the tv, just move the couch or whatever you need to, so you can move a bit and do something like a step aerobics (which doesn't take much space) or something like that. Try different videos. Some are fun, some are boring, some are easier than others to understand and some are hard to deal with. So try them until you find your favorites.
Another option for indoors is a stationary bike. They're starting to hit craigslist now. (People buying them for New Years resolutions, and then giving up by spring cleaning.) Put on your favorite music, or put a good book in front of you and just go.
It doesn't really matter *what* you do right now as long as you do a little something every day. And at least one day a week take off and just stretch and nothing more. You need the downtime too!
Also - watch portion control. It's easy to let food get out of control. So watch how much you're eating. I like fitday.com, others like sparkspeople.com but whatever - find a way to track your eating so you know how much you're doing.
And just report in here once a day of one thing you did, to keep you mindful of it.
Welcome! And congratulations for making a commitment to being healthier.
