Welcome. Guys are welcome! Glad it's not just hens here.

You plan to walk one hour a day everyday - starting from what baseline? That seems an awfully major lifechange unless you're already walking some everyday (20 mins?) Just want to make sure you don't set yourself up for failure.

Cheers everyone.

Well to be honest I don't know if this will work (but I'm pretty sure it will) lol I used to be 170lbs back in 2008 and I was fixing to go to high school. I wanted to be thin by the time I went to high school so every day I would run for like an hour and ride my bike for like 10 minutes....a few months later I was at 135lbs. I was proud of it

but then I don't know what happened that I gained 20lbs lol so then not too long ago, I decided to do that again. I was losing 3lbs a week until I was 129lbs

then I don't know what happened again that I'm 145lbs lol so hopefully I'll be losing about 3lbs a week

To lose weight you have to burn more calories than what you're consuming

Starving to death will not make you lose weight, instead it will make you GAIN weight.

Skitz has a point. Your body is built to try to protect you from starvation - to hoard those precious resources in case of famine. So if you go too low in calorie intake, your body will actually desperately hold on to the fat and you'll lose muscle instead! Not what you want.

I just did 7 minutes of stationary bike, followed by 5 minutes of stretching. Go me!

Today I took all the Christmas decorations down and did 5 loads of laundry.

That's a lot of stair climbing, we have a 2 story farmhouse with the washer and dryer in the basement...at least my legs got a good workout!

Just found this thread and I want to join!! I started dieting last year (Oct '09) when I was about 145 lbs, then got pregnant in Nov., so there went that (although I did loose weight from being so sick in the first part of the pregnancy!), gained a total of 32 lbs, had the baby July 31st of this year, have lost most of the weight, but the last 6 lbs or so was still hanging on and I gained a couple during the holidays.

I'm 5'5" and currently weigh 155. I will be starting my diet again on Monday (I always use Weight Watchers) and will be trying to eat healthier. I'm not promising to exercise since I really don't have the time (I work nights/weekends and have my 5-month-old during the day), but have never been big on exercising and still usually do fine losing weight once I set my mind to it. My goal is to get to 130 before it's time to break out the bikini.

Remember that taking your 5month old for a walk counts as exercise. So does all the weightlifting to get the 5monthold onto and off the changing table!

I'm in! Last year I lost 30 pounds and would like to lose another 25-30pounds. I'm 5'4" and weigh 174 lbs. Several years ago, when I was in the best shape I have ever been in, both my husband and I did a Body for Life. The eating plan was easy, and very sensible. It really helped with portion control. And that really is what loosing weight is all about, portion control and exercise. 6 days a week, you ate healthy foods. 3 meals and 3 snacks. For your 3 meals, you would have a serving of protein, a serving of carbohydrate and a fruit for breakfast or vegetable for lunch and dinner. For your snacks you had a serving of protein and a serving of vegetables. A serving size of protein can be measured by the size of the palm of your hand (which allows larger people to have bigger serving sizes) or the size of a deck of cards. A serving of cheese is the size of a domino. A carbohydrate serving is the size of your fist. 1 slice of regular bread or 1 tortilla is 1 serving of carbohydrate. If you use the reduced calorie bread, then you can have 2 slices for 1 serving. The 7th day is your free day. You can eat whatever you want. We usually did this on Saturday. This worked really well for us. I lost 25-30 pounds and my husband lost about 75 pounds doing this. Exercise is a big part of it also. The main thing they taught about exercise is to do interval training. You can do interval training with just about any exercise that you are doing. Walk for 5 minutes and then speed your walking up for 1-2 minutes, and then go back to your normal pace for 3-4 minutes, then increase your speed for 1-2 minutes, then go back to your normal pace for 3-4 minutes. By adjusting your speed it keeps your body guessing as to what comes next and you will burn more calories then if you walked the same speed the entire time. You can also burn more calories in less time by doing intervals than a steady pace for longer time.

I'm excited to get back to exercising and eating better and loosing the rest of my weight. I am in the process of weaning myself of of Diet Coke. So, I am going to get off of Diet Coke, start eating better foods and exercising. I bought the Zumba DVD's and haven't opened them up yet. I will use them this week. Thanks for starting this!!!
