Anyone ready to ring in the new year...and lose weight/get fit?

Great job on measuring BantamOfTheOpera (BTW - I adore your username!)

And welcome Carol. I like biking too and really like how easy it is on my joints.

KKHen - deviled eggs are my downfall too. I figure they're a better indulgence than most things though...

Great job on the walk and the food mom'sfolly! Glad to hear sparkpeople's working for you. Tracking your intake is really helpful.

So, for today - my exercise is going to be unloading the pallet of firewood I just bought! My poor pickup truck, George, is whining at me that he's never had to carry *anything* so heavy before.

(Yes, I named my truck after George Clooney.

So sue me.

Later when it warms up - I'm going to staple the hardware cloth across the bottom of the new coop. One step at a time.

Edit to update: okay. I've unloaded and stacked about a third of the wood. Taking a break now and drinking some water...

Ok, SO, today is my last day being bad! I went to Wendy's while I was running errands.

However, I finally got the grocery shopping done, so now I have diet-friendly food.

Ok I wasn't going to join but then I thought the more people watching the harder I may try. As some of you know I beat Cancer 2 times. The first time in 1999 Breast cancer then 18 months later uterine cancer. Put on some weight then. I also found out I was born with a c5 and c6 fusion in my neck and needed to have 2 fusions done. Had one done,( c4 to c5) the other fusion (c5 to c6) will take the bendablity (is that even a word) out of my neck. After that I slowed my life style way down, who wants to take a chance at being a paralyzed from a fall or trip. Fast forward to a few months back I found out I have sleep apnea, no big surprise there. The surprise came when the doctor said I have type 2 diabetes!!! So now I have decided I want to live a bit longer and now is the time to change thing.

So I am going to start by trying to be healthier. I have already traded regular Pepsi for diet Pepsi, and no more sweet tea, (that is was hard for this southern girl) that helped 4 ½ lbs in 3 weeks just by doing that. I am going to try and walk regularly and watch what and how much I eat. Not a diet but a life style change. I have a 52oz bubba keg cup and I try to drink 2 of those full of water a day so I think I am gettin enough water.

I am 5 foot 4 and weight 203lbs,at my heaviest I was 210lbs, and am 53. I hope to lose 70 pounds this year. The doctor said it should be doable for me. I will be weighting in with him every other Tuesday. That should help keep me honest in what I eat and do. Also any help with blood sugar control would be helpful. So all that said I would like to join your life change group.

I never thought a half of a venison meatloaf sandwich and a low fat yogurt would satisfy me for lunch.

We used to order out at the office all the time and I could wolf down a whole calizone like nobody's business.

Lots and lots of water whenever I get any kind of craving at the office from now on.

The past two days DH has had supper on the table when I get home....no late nite meals for me anymore....that played a major part in my weight gain over the years.

I had a chance to read through all the posts after I added to the thread........

Looks like we're all headed in the right direction with the best of intentions!

Great Job Everyone!

the secret to low sugar is low carbs..things like sugar, starches are what make your sugar rise .. you can have sugar as in an apple or banana because it is naturally in there.. just don't go hog wild on the fruits. meat and veggies are your friend.. like tonight i had broccoli steamed 1/2 cup of pasta and a boneless skinless chicken breast. i made home made sauce with veggies in it and no meat.. i actually could only eat half of my plate but this is day 4 of my diet and i think my stomach must be shrinking inside.. so the other half will be tomorrows lunch. you need some carbs in your diet.. try brown rice instead of white, wheat bread instead of white.. try to get things with more fiber. for a snack i was eating an apple and anna told me to try a piece of cheese .. 1" cube size.. and it has been very satisfying that way.. go to the library and look at cookbooks for diabetics.. you will see they really go low carbs and artificial sweeteners.. i am stopped drinking my diet soda, and have gone for tea , water etc.. gl with your weight loss and sugar control. i was always in the 150-230 but today i was 99 before dinner and yesterday 114.. i also noticed my fasting blood sugar this morning was 181 so i am going to have to have a small protein before bed.. when your body doesn't have enough calories to burn you get an insulin dump while you sleep so keep tabs on your counts it is important.. gl

@ piecemaker: Glad you join us!! Man, and I complain 'cause my back hurts when I stack the hay!!! I guess I should be glad that I CAN stack hay. I come from a family of type 2 diabetics. My goal has always been to stay just thin enough not to get it, but still big enough to enjoy all the tastiness the world has to offer! LOL Well, I'm obviously here 'cause I went over that a little. I just went to Georgia last Sept. and had my first taste of sweet tea. If I lived down south I tell ya, I'd have no teeth left!

Drink'in water is hard for me . . . I'm surprised by how many other people don't drink water regularly. Anyhow, glad you are getting on the right track. It's never too late is it?

@ wildorchid053: I have to tell you, you are really inspiring me. Do you know what I did this morning?? I took a 40 min. walk...I haven't done that in over a year, maybe two! I do a lot of running around on the property so my legs and muscles are fine. BUT my cardio. . . I was a mess!! I started to feel kind of nauseous huffing it up the hill, okay, it was actually a very minor incline, on the way back. Just makes me realize how much I need to get back into the swing of things. I don't know if I'll get out there every day, especially if the wind doesn't stop blowing, but I will make an effort to do it at least a few times a week to start.

KnockKneed Hen my everything hurts when I have to stack hay !!!!! My youngest son moved away in Oct. so I am having to learn to pace myself alot more now that my help is gone. Yesterday I started a project that should of taken a day to do but it will take me 2 or 3 days. Just have to take my time. Looking up and down are painful,l I know that is why I have slowed down my activity. But hay you do what you gotta do. I am grateful I can do as much as I do. So onward and upward. I know losing some of the weight will help with the sleep apnea, high blood pressure and high clolestarol (sp) and diabetics.

I had a mixed veggie taco for dinner. I found the recipe on Spark People. It was very tasty. I didn't even miss the guys' regular taco filling. I did miss the sour cream though. I think the leftovers will be even better, when the flavors have more time to blend. It has onion, broccoli, cauliflower and carrots and tasted surprisingly meatlike without tasting fake. I don't like most meat substitutes because they just taste kinda off to me. I added 1/2 cup black beans to up the protein a little. It made a huge portion, with only about 400 calories.
