WOW! You got it pretty good! I pay for all my feed, I pay for the birds and hatching eggs, everything! My parents just helped with building my coop!

Yes, you do have a VERY good deal!!! I'd make sure to thank your parents several times over!

Me, I have to buy and care for all my birds, buy all their feed, buy the incubators, buy the materials for all of their housing, etc. It's basicly my own little business, and I then sell fresh eggs to my customers, including my family.

I do give my family all of the "grade B" eggs (small cracks, stains, etc), so they get many of their eggs for free. As of this year I started hatching and selling my own chicks and really enjoyed it!

Like I said, I charge $1.85 each for straight run. I find that some people prefer purebreds, and others prefer mixed breed colorful chicks. When I hatch sex-link chicks, I sell the pullets for $2.50 each. You will get a lot more customers if you sell sexed pullet chicks, but then you end up with a bunch of extra rooster chicks. If you do the math, you'll find that you're better off selling all of the chicks from a batch for $1.85 each, vs. only the pullets for $2.50 each and having to keep and raise all the roosters.
