Anyone setting eggs May 1st?

Candled my eggs in the bator last night. out of 13 eggs, 8 are veining very nicely, 1 was clear, 4 were blood ring. I went ahead and left them in the bator, just to make sure. Will check again at day 14. will remove any that aren't growing then. I can't wait until hatch day. I do ok at waiting until lockdown. Once it's lockdown time, it takes FOREVER!!!

Good luck everyone!!

i am not doing anything with my broody. i dont want to bother her at all so its all going to be up to her.  we will have faith and see how she does!
Same thing here!! My broody has tucked herself into the far corner of the coop. I tried moving her but she flipped out so I let her go back to the nest and built an enclosure around her!!! It's too hard to get to the eggs to check on them so I'm just leaving her alone hoping she's doing her job!!!

Very excited about lockdown. I just wish it were sooner! Our grandson is 11 and very excited. We watched the baby chicks move inside the shell today. Very educational. We would have missed this with a broody hen. Maybe our broody will turn back broody. We would love to watch the mother hen interact with her babies. I just love raising chickens. Have fun with it! Good luck!

It is awesome to get the kids involved and interested in this. This is life...beginning to end.

Molly: your words really hit home for me. We had lost Dixie's sister last fall. I thought maybe a bird of prey. As I pulled the winter straw bales away from the coop base I found Tilly's remains between the coop and the bale. I'm sure a weasel got her and stashed her there. I was sad for a bit...but also riding on the great feeling of putting those eggs under her sister, Dixie, that day. You get it all with these chickens. That is for sure. It truly is life...

Molly, after watching your video, I had to pull an egg out and look at mine again. It is all so amazing.

I'm glad I get to experience the miracle with a broody and the incubator. Ms Broody-butt is so content and determined. It is such a joy watching her care for her eggs. Then I feel like mother hen watching over the eggs in the incubator.

BTC, I'm sorry about Tilly. :( Yep, life... beginning to end... and adding quality to ours.

Awe Bogtown.. that is so sad, but setting the eggs is a good feeling.

We lost 4 hens last month to dogs. that was a tough one, especially because 1 of them was the favorite BLRW. (of course) but the kids understand, life goes on. the little neighbor boy doesnt really get why i was so upset/angry, to him they are just chickens, so he helped my kids bury one of them... it was good for him too. we dont have a meat and egg farm. we have animals that we care for and who in turn provide for us.. its more of a respect thing that i think he needed to learn. now If I could get my retired neighbors to understand that concept and keep their dog at home... before something bad happens to it...

ANYWAY! yes they definately improve the quality of life!! I actually let my dad talk me into this because he said I needed a way to unwind. my working 50-60 hours a week and then coming home and running 4 kids here and there was taking its toll. when I went to my Dr for high blood pressure for months and one day she was going to admit me because it was dangerously high... it was a wake up call. now I go out.. give them water and scraps watch them run around.. even cleaning the coop out is helping! the kids love them, they run out and take care of them when they get home from school.. just checking water and for eggs, but it is so much better than running in the house to the TV or kindle or computer...these chicks give us so much more than meat and eggs.
