Anyone setting eggs May 1st?

Mama hen and her chick's are doing well. We were worried that the chick's would be afraid of us and not let us handle them, but we have found that because our hen isn't scared neither are they. We can hang out in the coop with them and pick them up and talk to them and they are comfortable with us. It is so nice letting Mama take care of them.

I have just over a week for the eggs in the incubator. The chicks that hatch may go under another broody who is sitting on plastic eggs right now. And I think we have a duck that is going broody so she may get some or all of the ducklings. Can a duck handle raising a dozen ducklings?
thats good news!! I was wonderin the same thing!

good luck on the ones in the incubator, your broody might take them. I would think the duck would be ok with however many hatch. if she can sit on them all that is!

Joyful...that is so fun to hear about the hen and the chicks being sociable. They say also a hen raised cockerel is usually more friendly, BTW....

You might have to keep an eye on your up and comers for a new flock leader...

I know it's very late here but can I join too?? I have 8 Turkey eggs in the bator that should hatch around the 27th-30th of May. I'm not sure on the exact date because I stole them from the broody hen, I did leave her one though lol

Here's my eggs!

Welcome! Glad you joined us.
I set duck eggs on the 1st and added chicken eggs a week later so they should all hatch around the 28th with yours. I'm getting antsy... 28 days is a long time watching eggs.

@joyfulkeeper it's the longest 28 days of your life! But gladly I didn't have to wait that long, found her nest Saturday and got the eggs Sunday. I only have to wait a little over a week for babies

woohoo!! my daughter just posted that 2 are out!! I cant share.. its on facebook, and well i dont know how! but they are both silkies!
