So cute together. They are a colorful family.I thought I would post a picture update of Dixie and her brood. So my main support BYC peeps could follow a bit on our brood. Today I brought Dixie up closer to the house and the gardens. I got Dixie as a two year old hen and previously I think she was kept mainly in pens. So I call her a bit " institutionalized". She likes the feel of the coop and run more than free ranging I think...it's what she knows. With the help of my daughter and some protesting by Dixie we got them under cover of some peonies, hostas, and poppies and the deck...and I think Dixie is enjoying it now. LOL. I'll help her get the chicks back down to the coop. But for now I can't help feeling this is good for them.![]()

This was my First Hatch-a-Long, Too! I just loved it. What a great group! We should search each other next May if we're in need of some more chooks!Same here! Thanks for sharing this experience with me everyone!
Excitement for the Day - 3 chicks were missing from their mama hen. I called everyone out to look for them including our dogs. We were looking all over and getting very worried not seeing any sign of them. Then, *Sammy* to the rescue! He loves "his" chicks. Sammy found them down a drainage tile that had it's cover pushed off. He smelled them and sat down at the hole looking all protective. I finally noticed him and went to check it out - sure enough, there they were and he wouldn't budge until we got them out. What a great dog!
