anyone setting eggs right now (4-17)HATCHING! pt.32

as soon as it gets a little warmer here today Im off to clean out the coop and prepare the broody box, it was too cold and wind yesterday to do it . Shes sitting pretty in the back corner between the box and the wall so I dont have to move her too far. I wish mother nature would remember its the middle of april not october.

didnt even have to move her. her nest was only a foot away from the broody box and when I cleaned the coop and box i moved her egg she was sitting on yesterday into the box. when i went in last night to give her more eggs she was sitting pretty in the box and rolled the eggs right under her. I think she has 13 now. Fingers crossed!!

I've been candling and it looks like we have 17 out of 18 growing and swimming in there! I was hoping for 9 at best. I go on lockdown this weekend. I can see how this can get downright addicting.

My broody started sitting on the 17th with one egg. On the 18th i gave her a delaware and silkie mix. Also a rir silkie mix and 4 EE chochinX. Hehe I moved her in about 10 minuted ago. Good luck hatching everyone!

This is my 2nd experience with a broody hen. I put 8 eggs under her on the 13th and she sat on them for a day and then moved off to another nest. So I put them under her again. She then sat faithfully for a week, until today when I found her in another nest again, and now there were 9 eggs in her original nest, so I guess another hen added one. I read on this forum that people have put their hens back on cold eggs with varying degrees of success, so I put her back on her eggs, and then later moved her to an enclosed area (a big dog carrier) in the coop. She did settle on the eggs, so we'll see how it goes now. Two weeks to go. I had great results with my first broody hen, 4 out of 5 eggs hatched and I have 4 very cute chicks running around, just over two weeks old. I'm not as confident about this round. I should have put her in an enclosed area right away. I've learned for next time. But maybe (after reading other people's stories) we'll still get some chicks this round.

this is only my second time with this hen but I waited a couple days to be sure she was settled in and wouldnt get up and leave them. I noticed yesterday there was an extra egg in the nest. there was an open area she was getting out of when she got up and I guess someone snuck in when she was gone so I closed her in for good. Last year she was locked in for the whole time plus a week or so after they hatched and she didnt seem to mind so much. There is plastic fencing around the pen so they can see each other so they seem ok with it.

I'm getting my brooders set up tonight and tomorrow will start running them....just in case we get an early bird. The mix of eggs I got from a friend may also have duck eggs in there too, hoping the hatch doesn't mess anything up.
