Anyone setting eggs starting July 15 -July 22?

I set eggs this past Friday. First time hatching eggs, both shipped and local, lots of different breeds. I candled them today and didn't see any veins, so I'm hoping it's just too early and/or I don't know what I'm looking at.

I'm using the little giant bator with a fan and egg turner.

Can't wait to see if I get any babies!!!!!!!!!

What kind of mutts?
IDK, I've got two White Leghorn roosters, a Turken rooster, a BLRW rooster, a Red Star hen, a RIR hen, a Bantam hen (I don't know what kind), a White Orpington, and a Golden Campine. So there is really no way to know. I think it will be fun to try and figure out who the parents are. The BLRW and the Red Star are best friends so I assume that I should get atleast 1 BLRW/Red Star. It'll be interesting, I'm exited :D

yay.. i got my BBS AM eggs today... what a surprise. I didnt even know she sent them already... Now just waiting for my White AM at the end of the week... pls pls pls not monday..

Super fun! I bet that will be pretty tricky to figure parents. Do all your roosters get along? Thats quite a combo you got there.

Yeah, I was a little worried about having that many, but I haven't really had problems with it. I actually have atleast three more girls that are only 16 weeks old (and the chicks that I don't know the genders yet)

The only Lav Orp roo to hatch turned out scrawny and even after I let him age up a bit he never looked quite right. I figured since the girls were his sisters I'd be better off getting an unrelated roo if I wanted Lav Orp babies. That particular hatch got a little too hot when I was away for a weekend & I've always wondered if that wasn't a factor. I know that some reptiles' sex can be determined by the temperature during their hatch but I can't find any confirmation on birds...if it could be proven I'm guessing hatcheries would take advantage of it so I assume it was just a fluke.

From what I understand about chicken genetics (and I admit that isn't a whole lot because it is way complicated) a lavender is just a black with a recessive gene that keeps the black from showing. I'm not quite sure what I'll get from the mix! I'm really hoping I have good luck with Hinkjc's eggs again. Even though Jody wrote "Please call..." in big letters on the box, my PO sent them via the bumpy mail jeep anyway so I'm afraid they were scrambled. :( Last time my hatch rate from her eggs was amazing inspite of some PO mishandling and every single chick that hatched grew up to be gorgeous. George, one of the roos, was the most amazing roo ever, both in looks and personality and I'm hoping to hatch a George the 2nd. :)
Was the one roo that hatched not a good one?
I would LOVE a hatch like that.... i think, but i see if you need a nice roo.... it wouldnt be ideal to get none to choose from.
SS over LO ...Wow can you get a speckled lavender then? That would be novel. This gene thing on chickens is different as i found out that often the color only comes thru on the head not the whole chicken which is odd to me well mybe on the tail and wings too but not solid often .. or so i understand but i am really new to reading about genes.

Hi again
Anybody HOTOUT there ????
Another box came WHOO HOO agan...some of my LO's
. Had them put ice packs in with allmy eggs Hope it helps.

Read an article here about cold and heat on eggs.... Called "What if the Power goes Out? VERY interesting. Hope the ice pack didnt bring them down to freezing at first as it can killeggs. ..but some can make it so they say. Said over 104.4 eggs will die.
Heck i thought it was 102!!! Claims 100 is the perfect temp .l Wonder whiy then the bator company set this new bator at 99.5? think it is.Well better safe i guess
.
The more i read the more i think this is SOOO tricky and wonder how i will get a chick. Also of interest was an article that said letting the incubator go down in temp for an hour -6 hours!!! (REALLY 6!!) can be beneficial on the eggs b/c the hens get off the nest for periods of time too and the universitys controlled test showed better hatch rates (by a little) with low temps at times..
I would never have thought that opening the bator the first 18 days to candle eggs i guess is a-ok In fact MORE than a ok.!!
But i am just READING dont say DO IT to anyone.

So I candled the eggs I put in on 7/11 and all look good..unfortunatley, some look way developed.. one even shows a developed chick., head, eyes, body shape, good size too.. some are dark areas taking up at least 3/4 of the shell. Is it possible the hen or the weather started these eggs befopre I did? When do I take them out and put them into lockdown? I do have another incubators with some ducks in it that are supposed to hatch in 3 days.....I thought this chicken hatching would be fun but its becoming a PITA....
