Anyone setting eggs starting July 15 -July 22?

I am worried about the high humidity in Maine...my bator is dry but the air humidity has been running at high 50s and 60s since day 1. Is there anything you can do to help that lower without a room dehumidifier? Thanks! Keeping my fingers crossed as we are on day 14 and I don't want these chickies to drown :(

Do you have a hygrometer in your incubator? I have all of my vents in the room closed, as well as a heat lamp on my little chicks [it is sticky hot in the chicken room] but my incubator is still running at 30-40% humidity.

Though, all the books I read the information on how high the humidity should be for the first 17 days varies wildly from 30%-60%. I don't think that 50-60% humidity is too high for the growth period, especially if it's the humidity in the room.

They do sell the moisture pads at walmart though, a little tub that has a bag of some magical concoction inside of it, it absorbs moisture...it's only 7$, maybe you can try that?

I had a weird dream last night. I dreamed I candled the eggs. One was normal, one had a ball of worms in it and the last one looked empty and I dropped it. The dropped egg cracked in half and what looked like two halves of a peanut fell out. Nothing else.

. I think I need to candle again tonight so I don't get another weird one.
Sweetly, maybe a dry sponge or something similar could help drop the humidity in e incubator.
I literally laughed out loud about your dream, (hope you dont mind.).. 2 halves of a peanut!!! SOO funny b/c i can picture it so well. What a dissapointment that would be. Guess thats the point your mind was worrying about in the dream, huh?(sorry i am still giggling)

I don't blame you for laughing! It was a doozy. I even tried to block the window in the coop so I could candle an hour ago. Didn't work, so I will have to wait for night.

Thanks! No I just have an indoor/outdoor thermometer which I put the cord with probe end in the bator and I can get in(room) and out(bator, outside technically) and then an indoor humidity read...if I had more room in the bator I would put the unit in there....but I have 46 eggs crammed in my LG

Thanks for the insight, I will not worry as much!

Ok, does anyone else have this problem? (Well, not necessarily "problem")

I'm expecting my eggs to hatch on Tuesday, which is actually day 19 for me.
I have NEVER had a chick hatch on day 21.Ever.

Then again, all I've ever hatched is silkies, so it could be me, or it could be the silkies.
This is my 7th time hatching, and every time my chicks hatch on day 19, perfectly healthy.

My problem or their problem?

I don't know, I guess it differs from people to people.

Anyway one weak quail with curled toes died ): My first one who is quite swollen and had the umblical cord around it's neck in egg :(

Funny and concerning...lol! The worms were for the chick to eat! I will put a dry sponge in there, thanks.
