Anyone setting eggs starting July 15 -July 22?

Mine should be hatching between now and possibly until Saturday. They aren't due until Friday but I got the first pip tonight.

Well, I've got some more egg duck babies pipping now. Little Khaki Crewmembers. They are from the A+ laying flock, their mamas each lay over 315 eggs per year.

Yay! I've got 4 Khaki's in the bator - pipped yesterday, but not due until Friday. Those ducks lay an egg a day- they are so awesome!

I'm glad you enjoyed watching my eggs hatch, but I'm no lady... I'm a big ol ugly man!

The one that hatched upside down had me stressed out all day long. I raced home and got it out and it's fine now. It was a RIR. I had the worst day at work because of it. On top of trying to not get caught watching the eggs hatch I had one that couldn't get out of the egg. I work an hour away, but I got through Nashville traffic and still got home in 45 minutes to help that chick out. I have five out 1 more zipping and 3 pips now. This is my day 21.

Well, I'm done with this hatch. Of about 36 eggs that we started out with we cracked four due to some problems with the motor for the egg turner....down to 32. Of those 32, 4 eggs were bad when candled on day 18, down to 28 for lockdown. 22/28 hatched successfully, I started opening the incubator and trying to help chicks I thought needed help which would account for the six that didn't hatch. One of the chicks that hatched died yesterday so we're down to 21.
Lessons learned...
I will try to start incubation of all eggs on same day, no staggered hatching
I will follow the advice on another thread and will not open up the incubator after lockdown until day 23, no matter what...
Dry hatch method worked wonderfully for me on my first hatch!! Will definitely do it again!! I maintained the humidity in my basement below 50% using a room dehumidifier
Have to fix the egg turner, I want to disturb the eggs as little as possible for the next hatch. I will candle twice, on day 18 and day 10.
Will resist the urge to help, it hurt more than it helped. I feel I helped one or two chicks but lost another 3 or 4 because of it.
And last but not least I learned that hatching your own is an amazing experience and is very addictive... To the person that mentioned eBay, thanks... I've got 24+ copper Maran eggs coming to me next week and may pull the trigger on another 10+ light Sussex... Will be joining the other thread for that hatch along!!!!

Still nothing with the other two eggs. Day 22. I'm very doubtful at this point, but I'll still keep them till tomorrow. Uhhhgggg.

I guess I'm going to the feed store to buy a buddy for sage, as she is alone.

I dont want to count my chickens HAHA ...but i have 2 pips!!One is the rockin guy from last night .They arent really pipped yet but the shell is trying to crack.Another i thought was but he just has shell from Midnight on his shell ITHINK.Oh my fingers are so crossed!!
I cant thi k what else i can do to get a better hatch is the thing.Shipoped eggs..but others get more than 1baby!!
Around here not that many ppl seem to have chickens or nobody adverstises hatching eggs or certain breeds if they do(2 ppl i saw) .I put an ad on Craigs to see if i can locate someone i can pickup from . The closest i found to buy 12 Lo eggs is almost 5 hours away one way!. GEEZ. and it was the only one with a pure BREED not just mixed."free range eggs"
Wel maybe i'll get lucky but last night i candled my other LO eggs and doesnt look good at all. All black no air cell (whats that?) or af ew looked like they might not have fertilized.Butthe savign graceMAYBE is the Silver Laced Brahmsa. I see lots of activinty inthem and veins too.DAy 10.Other Los go to lockdown Sat.

That first crack is called a star crack, the 'bump' in the shell. Not really broken open to a hole yet, but definitely a sign that someone is trying to get out!

I have some rocking in my bator too! So exciting! 1 hatchling came at 6am this morning, 5 more pips, two rocking, and 3 out of 4 duck eggs are pipping too!

That's tough that you are having such a hard time find good hatching eggs. Are there 4-H clubs around? Do you have County Fairs with Chickens exhibited? Where in the world are you? How can you possibly be 5 hours from any other chicken breeders? That just doesn't seem possible?! We've got to find you some other fun chicken folk in your neck of the woods. Have you searched for people on here that are nearby?
