Anyone setting eggs starting July 15 -July 22?

I Agree...think its a wonderful Idea....see how much they have grown at what colors, patterns & shades they have compare to new hatchling fuzzies....teeheeI'm thinking in a couple weeks we should post pics of the chicks we hatched during this hatch-a-long.
Just to see how they all turn out
I have learned so much during this shared hatch.I never really knew how to figure out anything about a air cell.I had some during the first stage of this hatch that seemed too small for the days.They grew to the right size just as they were supposed to.Figureing that out and seeing it for myself was so cool.Seems like you can tell how close a egg is to hatching from just the air cell even if its early or late during a hatch.I had 10 more eggs set to hatch today I thought but 9 hatched yesterday.Not sure if I missed the date or they hatched early.I have 6 more to go.I am thinking they should hatch Thursday night/Friday morning.These are either my pure EEs or my project EEs/blue bantie roo cross.I think I may have confused the pure eggs with the mixed on these last ones.I could tell them apart because the pure ones laid the larger eggs but the younger hens eggs have been getting bigger all along and the these chicks look like the mixed from my earier hatch.I did get one unusual colored chick I don't know what to make of.
This is the funny colored one.It is black and reddish and has a lighter belly.I can almost see the chipmunk stripes on its back but it very dark and hard to make out.I wonder if someone has see one similar colored and what I might expect its adult colors to be.
I noticed it belly also is different colored on each side.Kinda like a dog will have a center line when its spotted and you can see where the spots change on that line.My sister wants to know why it will lay in my hand like that.LOL.I don't know other than its real tame and I always handle them and I just rolled it over in my hand and it just lays there looking at me.Cute little bird.

only 3 chicks lived out of 8 eggs two broke and two died and one was a dud mom taking care of two chicks and im taking care of one chick my self it follows me around and he wants to stay with me more then the chickens .. i am getting some barred rock chicks to go with my lonely ee chick
I was just reading through this thread, didn't read every post but I was appalled at the way some people pack eggs to be shipped. One cardinal rule......NEVER write fragile or Especially NEVER write Live hatching eggs on a box,,,,, NEVER! It Pisses them off at some of the sorting centers. If you are shipping any box, they are all treated the same and it's almost an insult to them that you write such things. It implies they must handle your box "better" than others I guess. The only thing I do is add the "UP" and arrow, that is it.
Anyway, the photo of the box said a lot too. AWFUL, Awful packing. I use a standard box, the type that is a set price no matter the weight. I save packing stuff from my husbands business but when I don't have it, I buy styrofoam and cut pilars of it to re-enforce the corners of the box. I buy bubble wrap or the foam sheets used in the craft section at Walmart and make tubes around each egg, putting the small end down in the bottom part of an egg carton and cutting it to extend a little past the top and bottom of the egg. The top of the carton is cut off then put it back over the top of the eggs and tape it down snugly. I use something fairly solid on the bottom of the box and use all those plastic grocery bags to stuff on the bottom as a cushion, set the carton of eggs in the center of the box then begin packing more of the bags around it then on top and finish with another solid piece (anything from a thick sheet of cardboard to a slice of styrofoam, whatever I have on hand. The box should close snugly over it all so when it's taped shut, there is no movement. There will be a label for the to and from address but don't forget to add the buyers phone number in red at the bottom of the label, neatly so it can be read so they can call the buyer for pick up. If you live a little ways from the closest sorting station, get to know them. I live in a small town. When I get shipped eggs or live birds, I check with them and will drive 45 minutes to pick them up there, they don't "Have" to make it all the way to your hometown post office and you can save them an extra day of shipping.
I raise true Araucana's and Serama's and both breeds have terrible hatch rates on shipped eggs but mine do great and part of that is shipping them right.
My latest project is making the first ever Chocolate Large Fowl Araucana's! I already have chocolate Serama's. I love the color and my Araucana's are going to be beautiful in Chocolate. This is the real, sex linked/recessive chocolate.

The chicks hatched yesterday, but NOT at all what I planned or how! This incubation was heart-breaking for us. I am so glad to have shared the experience with all of you, though!

Well...my Phoenix eggs got here Saturday...Amanda sent me 13!!
But ALL has broken air cells & tiny bubbles!!
(3 didnt make it)
Did my research...& found out that they can still hatch!!
So I let them settle 24 hours & put them in the bottom of the bator for 5-7 days (NO TURNIN)
Hope I get a few to hatch!!

Can I hatch 2 chicks from 1 egg. I candled at day 9 and I can see what appears to be 2 embryos.
