Awwwwwwww, too cute.
Yikes, you have one still pipping!!?? Wow, long hatch. Good luck

Yeah I know. I had one egg that seemed to not be as "full" in the egg at day 18 so it maybe a couple days behind for whatever reason?

We shall see tonight when he gets home from the farm.

What store bought eggs?? Like Trader Joes type eggs???

we don't have a trader joes but yah! our small tiny store here (well near here) gets eggs from a farm 30 min away. once I was there and said if I ever inubate eggs i'm gonna try them. then i told DH that i wanted a bator and with there being no money to speak of he questioned how, My plan was never to buy one I'm always looking to do stuff with the kids. so about 3 days later (which was about 3 weeks ago) I was running the "new" bator checking temps & humidity. a day later (Sat) I put eggs in it. and EARLY sunday morning (as in I was sleeping yet) I remembered the store and their eggs. so after church I stopped in checked pakaged on date. They were 2 days "old" so I bought a dozen, I opened 2, to check fertility. One was fertile and one not. let them sit for 24 hours and put them in. The farm they came from said they were red rock/ red rock or white rock crosses. What ever that is?? and so far I threw 1 away it had a blood ring.

scbatz "she" is cute, could you please remind me what kind it is.

Kristi: excellent..can't wait to see pics.

As for lockdown I was thinking I would up humidity on day 18 first thing in the morning, fiddle as necessary all day and take the egg turner out and go into official lockdown before I go to bed. No idea if the humidity will need fiddling with.

So you know I ordered a dozen cayuga duck eggs? They should've arrived saturday...and didn't. So, in my disappointment and frustration, I growled at everyone all day and thought for sure they'd come today...this afternoon all I got was a 'we were unable to deliver' on the tracking info and yet there was no notice in my mailbox and I had been home all day. So I drove 25 miles to the post office and

:mad: at them and finally have them here but they are now well over a week old, spent a weekend+ flat, and did multiple unnecessary bumpy car rides. I've heard ducks are harder to hatch to start with so am not holding out much hope with all these other problems, but they will go in bator #2 tomorrow with 6 of my own Pekin duck's eggs (though I've no idea if they've started mating - never caught them in the act)

- candling will be stressful on this batch.

Loopy, sorry to hear about the duck eggs. Thats so frustrating!!!!!!!! I would give them a try though...you never know.
I had the goose eggs sitting on the counter for a week (didnt turn, layed on side) then I put them in the stupid LG without a therm. When I put a therm back in a couple days later, it said 104. But amazingly, 3 our of 4 are developing.

I dont have a clue about ducks or geese either.

I will try them and hope for the best.

Just opened the chicken bator to borrow the hygrometer for the other bator and detected a smell...hmmm...in blood hound mode I sniffed every egg and found one suspicious one. Cracked it open. Looks like it died around day 12.
Then got a bit panicky so candled a few randomly. Found another that was a ? at day ten was now a blood ring so removed it. A couple I couldn't see movement in , but saw a big dark mass so am hoping they are just too cramped now and a couple I saw a few flickers of movement. I stopped there and will candle all tomorrow before lockdown. Feeling a bit apprehensive now rather than excited

woohoo!! set eggs wed 10th march, got my first pipping and cheeps are happening in the hovabator. moved them off the turner and increased the humidity to 80% on sunday night. expecting some hatching by morning at this stage, 20 frizzle turken eggs in the bator, so we'll see how many make it through!

JB,

I candled last night to see how they servived the weekend and I got 4 that don't look right. 2 are my brahma eggs......... they have the dark area like last week but they also have this ??? group of vessels towards the pointy end of the egg???? but anyway ya look at it it is not as full as the 2 others of it kind. also my porous one died. I'm removing them tonight before lock down.

ours must be getting close if JB's are hatching, we're 3 days behind JB

A little bit of a worry:
My incubator temperature had been creeping up from about day 12-16, presumably because the embryos were producing heat. I adjusted it back down as required.
Now, since yesterday it seems to be running a bit cool. I'm worried that its because some of the embryos have died

Not helped by not seeing movement in my brief candling last night.

I have filled the second tray now, will let humidity stabilise to see if I need to adjust it (65% I'm aiming for, right?) then tonight will remove turner, candle them and then lockdown. (And then will look forward to 3...4...5 days of panicking)

My duck eggs went in the other bator this morning...its all systems go here today!
