Loopy, not entirely sure what is up with my lavender's. They were shipped, so that's most likely the problem. I've bought several batches of eggs from the same guy and he swears he checked fertility and they were good before he started selling them this spring. He's willing to work with me to get some more eggs. This is my second try with these eggs from him, so I am determined to make the 3rd work!!! First batch failed due to my lack of hatching skills, they were in my first hatch ever...I did a staggered hatch first go around and had the humidity too high. They fully developed that go around but never hatched.

Poor Lavenders...maybe they're sensitive souls and just couldn't handle the shipping

for you...I think temperature drops early on aren't so catastrophic..keep us updated.

Raimnel: yes, red ring, like a poorly drawn magic marker line all the way around the middle of the egg like a belt is a blood ring. There will be no blood vessels above either - I think the blood ring forms from the blood vessels collapsing. One of my eggs had a 1 inch red worm like a piece of a blood ring, but it wasn't a blood ring as the embryo was wiggling away...

Eggs are firmly planted in hatcher. Lg forced air is holding steady at 100 and the humidity is about 65%. I did double check my hygrometers both tested at 75%. I am tickled since I ordered these from eggcartons.com this year. They were advertised to be really good and always correct. I have had trouble int he past witht he electronic ones so I was hoping they would be worth it. Looks like they just might be.......find out friday I guess.

ok due to my eggstream curiosity, I had to look at what I thought were my "BAD" eggs. soooo I recandled the 5 in question.
3 store boughts in question, 1 definitally has the blood ring

the other 2 had movement

leaves me with 9 good so far
2 Easter Eggers in question, 1 the shell is very porus

and 1 the shell is too dark to even see anything.

leaves me with 5 growing good
all 5 Bantums are good!

Did you crack it open to see when it died?

Photos are difficult - I tried last night, only came out well on night shot or in black and white.
I tried videoing a moving one too - that was a handful - camera, egg and flashlight - bit risky - terrified of dropping an egg.

One of my Ameraucana/Australorp eggs is also very porous, but the embryo is growing well - so far.

Scbatz33: looking forward to phots of the little ones by the weekend then

I explained to Dh he was incharge of the eggs. He was not happy! But, I'll get him to post photos as soon as they are all hatched. They're just sitting int he hatcher right now doing a whole lot of nothing. I'm getting on a plane this afternoon so I'm really nervous about the hatch.

Should be ok, he doesn't actually have to DO anything. They will hatch or not. Then move them to the brooder. How hard is that????

Loopy, i'm afraid to crack it, fear of stink maybe or that I made a mistake in reading it?????

Pictures are very difficult with juggling everything. HEY! I thought moms had an extra hand that came out of their side when they needed one??? Where's mine when I need it??

scbatz, I still think ur crasy leaving the hubby with the hatch. Is this ur first hatch?? Will he have a clue?
have fun on ur trip!

ETA - some how my stupid bator got shut last night, It was on at 3:30am when I checked on it though it was at 97.5 ?? not sure why, then at 6:15 when my alarm went off I didn't see the light shining in my room from it and waited a bit and still no light so I went and checked on it and it was at 88*
hmm.png
the switch on the power strip was off???? I flip it back on and with in 15-30 min it was back to temp and shut off. The only thing is is that it shut off at 97*? what ever is with that? no one else touches it. Why would the thermostate now shut off at 97?? I'm soo steamed!

I have yet to have a stinky egg when I open them. Even the clears at 14 days haven't stunk. I open all my eggs to learn. I had 2 full term deaths, chick never pipped, and I opened those also, so I could learn and change things the next time if I'm doing something wrong.
