Anyone setting eggs tomorrow (13th March, EDD Apr 3rd)

I don't know, as a first timer, but my vote would be wait - if you crank it up you could spend a miserable 24 hours trying to get it right again or end up with a temp spike in the middle of the night

Or I guess you could turn it up if you note exactly how much you turn it so you can turn it back down exactly that later - ?

If you cranked it a 1/2 turn, then wait and let it stabilize for several hours. If it's still not enough, then give a bit more of an adjustment.

Did you add warm water? If not, it's going to take even longer to get back up to temp. I get the water hot under the tap and put it in through a bendy straw with a medicine syringe.

Candling tonight and lock down tomorrow morning so I can keep an eye on it.

It's 5 pm here and I can't wait till dark, so I'm gonna go play the wii for an hour while the dishwasher is doing it's thing....
But kristie I gotta ask what kinds are your little new ones?

That black one is so darn cute!

Amy,
I sent pics to the guy that gave me the eggs. I cant remember what kind of chickens he has...the chicks are probably mixes, which is ok with me. Im waiting on him to email me back.
He did tell me that he would save me more green eggs, as the only one that didnt develop was a green one. I had wanted that one to hatch.

Funny, the black one is the one my odd thinks is ugly!

I did notice today, that my original batch of chicks, that are now approx 5-6 wks old, has a rooster! 1 of my RIR's has a really large comb. The other ones is teeny. My 9 yo dd said last week, "This might be a rooster". Dang the comb has gotten huge since that day. And even though I take them outside and bring them in everyday, I dont guess I had been paying attention!

Ok, final candling complete.
Lockdown initiated

Ok, of original 34 eggs, there were 28 still up to candle tonight. I discarded 5 of these - either half full or clear or blood rings.
3 more I wasn't sure but thought were goners (shell only 3/4 full etc or couldn't be sure through dark shell) but they didn't smell or slosh so I put them in off to the side.
20 others were 90% or more full with good air sacs. Of these I only saw definite movement in 6 but its so hard when they're that full.

Bit disappointed but

I would be happy with 10 chicks

Only 1 of my 4 BCMs made it to lockdown

3 out of 4 of my own mongrel babies went in, 2 of which were wriggling.

So a mixed bag. Just have to wait and see now.
Humidity is at 60% now. May go up a bit more when temps get back up I hope.

Let the waiting game begin...

I have cleaned/disinfected my bator from this hatch. Ive added water and sponges and coffee filters. Now waiting for the temp to go back up before I candle and add eggs back in. They are sitting in the LG with the new hatchlings at the moment.

Good luck Loopy. Sounds good what you had going into lockdown. Coulda been worse....

Know what I did earler this evening? I was cleaning the aquarium that my cochin hatchlings are in. I had it turned over and went to smack the bottom to knock out the wood shavings stuck inside.
My hand went through the aquarium!!
