I think IF they hatch their names will be Lucky and Luckier!

These veins were..... like small clumps of viens?? not just small thin veins

I was going to open them up last night, but was not 100% they were dead. I had them on my desk last night and candled them like 3 or 4 times. Then the 4th time is when they moved I just about droped me teeth

Raimnel: 2 of mine had funny black spots at the pointy end, but the shells were almost full so I gave them the benefit of the doubt.

I also panicked and put one of my ones in the discard pile back in last night, just in case.
The others I opened and were early losses except one wyandotte that was just like Kirstie's - black and fully feathered just small - was only taking up half a very small egg. If I'm honest I almost thought I saw it move after I opened the egg and tipped it out so I totally freaked out, and the thought that I might just have killed a slow developer is what made me panic and put the other half-full dubious one back in the incubator.

Anyway, its a waiting game for everyone now.
When can we expect to see rocking? Pips? Zips? Might they pip on day 20 ready to hatch on day 21?
I have already peered in the window with a flashlight half a dozen times today

My temp is still not back up to 101.5
I think its because the eggs are now on the wire now rather than in the turner and I think its cooler down there. Its at about 100.5, so I'm gradually turning it up a little.
Also after stupid humidity sticking at 55% all day yesterday it shot up to 80% by 1am and I grabbed the hygrometer and moved onto a piece of egg carton because I think it as reading unnaturally high because, again, it was sat right on the mesh floor. Its now reading a comfortable 65% which seems more likely.

Anyway. Sitting on hands now. Trying to limit visits to peep in the window

LOL! Someone shoot me if I still have 10 month olds down there! LOL!

OK. I am never "locking down" at night before going to bed. I was up and down all night checking the darn thing!!! I will candle at night and do lockdown in the morning for future reference.

You may see some eggs start rocking today, very tiny wiggles & jiggles.

Peeps, Pips & Zips probably tomorrow would be the earliest with most activity Friday.

That is if your first full day was 3/13 and day 21 is Friday for you.

I think I told you all that my silly silkie is back to laying................. the 25th........... well this morning she's sitting on the nest all fluffed up.

Guess what I got sitting waiting for her?? there are 7 of them waiting (2 from my other silkie)

WA4-Hpoultrymom- How does it smell down there in your basement? I am keeping mine in a bedroom in our basement. Got 12 chicks yesterday and it was pretty stinky this morning.

I haven't messed with my temp but my humidity hasn't gotten up over 60%. I have wet sponges in there. A wet piece of wash rag. The trays are filled. I don't what else to do. I have to work all day today, so I will try to come home at lunch and check on 'em. Good luck everyone. I am excited and nervous all at the same time.

Raimnel- I have 3 silkie eggs in the bator right now. I hope they make it and I get at least one hen. I want to try to get mine to sit on pheasant eggs next spring. I hatched one last year and it was taken by a hawk, I was so bummed out.

The basement does have a faint smell. It will be worse by the end of April when those month olds are near 2 months. It is a very large unfinished walk out basement. On the nice days we open the windows down there which are on the other side from the chicks. I'm hoping by end of April to move out the 2 month olds. Then we will probably have this new batch down there until end of May. But there is no room in the garage. We are hoping to build a very large shed later this year or early next. It will be half for goats and half for the brooder boxes/breeding pens.

It would be really nice to have them out of the house!!!

they hatch. My 1st hatch ever was silkies and I got none.

Good luck

You should see rocking if your eggs are not in a carton. If they are in an egg carton, you'll see very little rocking. You *could* get pips on day 20, but it really depends on your temps. If your temps were a bit low, then they will hatch later. I had lots of pips on Day 20 and 2 hatched the same day. The rest waited until the next day.
