so far 2 Delawares, 1 meaty cross and a Blk copper Marans and more chirruping away lets see 40 made it to lock down and I really thought this wouldn't be going on until tomorrow I set them 3/16 worried that my humidity would be too low from what I can see they look great

what is your humidity? And where are you located? Dry or humid area? Can you tube water in?

Loopy, Amy-we can do another hatch along!!
My 30 eggs from fellow BYCer came today! A day earlier then I planned. Im not sure I have anywhere cool to store them.
I was going to disenfect the bator lastnite but decided to wait till today so I could see. Now Im hoping temps hurry and stabalize and dont take like 3 days. Shoulda done it lastnite...sigh.
Im debating on setting them all Tues evening or going ahead and setting the 30 this evening after temps stabilize. They would only be a day apart.
OR, if I set them tonite at midnite, and the other eggs tomorrow before midnite, would they all be on day 1 at same time???

loopy asked ~ How can I be sure they're all eating and drinking? I dipped all their beaks when I put them in and have seen the older ones eating and drinking but the newer ones just sleep - ? I got the same question

I got one chick in the 'bator cause when it was born this morning all the rest were picking at him so out they came, now it's all sad, no buddies

Q= some of these store boughts (cause I still don't know what to call them) have a comb, you can see that their gonna be single comb, does this mean that their more than likely roos? or is this common for this kind??? seller said they were red rock hens/white or red rock roos??

If I put my silkies in by Fri (hopefully Wed, it will be days 26/24 for the 4 remainder eggs) they should be hatching April 28th - 30th

ok here's the pics

I cannot see my gauge so I don't know when I closed it up I added lots of water to the outer ring as that keeps the humidity up to 60 maybe 65% been adding it with a syringe thru the ventilation holes I can tell there's water in there and the chicks are very active fluffy things and they are starting to make even more noise..these are all shipped eggs started with 51. 40 made it even though 3 looked not good so I guess Wednesday I'll know how well I did. This is just killin me not being able to lift that top off and look...I know better ya all have taught me well the last 20 days

forgive me lotsapaints for asking if someone else already asked this, What 'bator u using? I ask cause i was wondering if there is a window on top, or if you could cut one in for "next time"? (next time

There is a story to this I have a real nice convection stainless steel incubator that I used for breeding horses no fan holds temp great but really made for DRY I tried to add a fan no go so I set pans with sponges and ended up using terry cloth to get my humidity up then when the humidity got right the temp dropped to 96 that was Sat night when these eggs were to go into lock down...Sun I got the temp to 100.0 was going to put these eggs in and they were chirruping the stainless incubator has a door like a refrig with another glass door behind it this incubator I bought is a round red one from china no window if my turkey eggs hadn't come early I would have gotten the window in this one that will have to wait for 50+ bucks my china special is working great fan but no turner and lots of eggs hatching so since it was cheap I have 2 of them...this is an addiction

Lotsa... Breeding horses? how big r we talking?

Kristie ~ heck ya!! My DH just rolls his eyes, I used the excuse that I thought I had silkie eggs in the 'bator for this hatch but didn't, That doesn't explain where I'm gonna put ALL these cuties when their bigger

He'll just have to build another coop, for the roos maybe! Hey that reminds me, anyone else have more than one coop? Do they all go home at night, to the home their supposed to go to, or do they just go to any home? Like if I had a roo coop and a hen coop and they all just free ranged it all day, would the hens go to the roo coop for the night and visaversa?

Heck, I know what you mean! Im not sure what Im going to do with all of mine either. Ive already had to do some rearranging and added another brooder...so that makes 3 + my little one for the cochin with the bum leg. The new hatchlings go in with the cochin for a couple days, then get moved to a brooder with chicks of similar size.

Im going to have to have at least 3 coops. Right now, I have a temp run for the 7 wk old chicks. They go out during day, in their brooder at night. But I want to keep the silkies together..possibly with the bantam cochins and maybe the polish...that would be my 'stupid looking chicken' coop as my odd calls them.

Then a coop for the standard chickens. However, 1 of my RIR's has turned out to be a roo judging by his comb. And I think possibly 1 of my polish is a roo judging by the waddles that are developing and compared to the other 2.

I think I might like to keep the polish together in 1, the RIR's in 1 and silkies in another. That way can keep purebreeds for later hatchings...like next yr I mean, to sell the chicks and eggs.

I need more land just for the dang chickens. As it is, my entire back yard is going to be for the chickens. LOL
Good thing we are looking at some acerage!!!

raimnel semen fits into a baby bottle
