Anyone Setting Eggs Tonight 3/31/2011 - Come join me if you like!

Well, the outside temp jumped up 40 degrees today. This happened, again, while I was at work. I checked the eggs just as a came into my hot sweltering house to find the temp in the bator up to 102

I only worked 5 hours. So it couldn't have been that high for that long. I took the towels off (cause it was freezing yesterday) and hopefully it will go down quickly.

I am not sure when to candle with turkey eggs. Anyone know?

Do you have the red plugs out? If you are using the LG still air you can remove both plugs to try and reduce humidity. How much water do you have in the bottom? I only filled the center rings and not the outer two. I have a humidity of 37 right now.

I have both plugs out but in one of the holes is a tube for water. I have water in all 3 resavoirs. I'll try letting one dry up and see if the humidity gets lower. if not I'll let the 2nd outer one dry up as well. Thanks for the tip.

Keep them in for a little bit longer, you might have late growers, and sometimes it's just hard to see the beginnings of growth. Go about 7 days, by then you should have veining throughout the egg and you might even see the embryo moving around.

Well, I checked my eggs one last time, and I FINALLY saw some veins in 2 of the 3 EE's and I even saw a little heartbeat too (in one of them)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO SO SO excited...now if I didn't kill them candling so much, I will be even happier!!! I can't see in the dark brown ones yet, but I know that is totally normal....

Thanks for all the help today, I really appreciate it......

I'm candling on day 14, first hatch I obssessed and couldn't keep my hands out of the bator - this time I'm trying to relax and leave them alone until the 14th. Did read that people candle day 5, 10, 14 and then 18.

what kind of light are you using?? That is sooooo cool you can see some veining in your EE's....I got light blue and green eggs from an Ameracauna and dark brown eggs from a Maran - so the 60 lumen flashlight I have isn't going to be able to do anything for that!

Well I think I may have infertile eggs. I candled today and wont again till day 7-10 but found a thread that said I would see veins now.https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=261876 I did not. None of my eggs look fertile :-(

I have lost most hope but not all. I posted pics on another thread as well but here are my eggs ..... First egg has no veins, that is writing on the shell

Just candled tonight. 8 out of 9 bantam Araucana, and couldn't really tell with the faverolle silkie cross eggs. 2 are definite, but the other 7 were either possibles, or nothing showing at all. Got a decent pic of one of the Araucana eggs:
