Anyone Setting Eggs Tonight 3/31/2011 - Come join me if you like!

Yes they do! I tried to tell them like 5 times that they were Silkies and she kept telling me no. Lol. At least one of us knew what we were talking about :)

CONGRATS!!!!!

I did the same thing 2 years ago -- went to TSC and ransacked the bantam brooder grabbing everyone with dark legs and 5 toes. The employees thought I was looney, but I got my silkies! This time DD's hatching ours from a 4-H friend (hopefully -- the eggs look good so far).

Can I just take a minute to brag on my HovaBator 1588? I bought this thing used on Craigslist for $50 (including the turner). I don't know how old it is, but it is rock solid on both temperature and humidity. I haven't had a single "Oh no!" moment (except when I let the tray go dry before I had the hygrometer, oops). One of the best $50 I've spent in a long time. Now here's hoping we get peeps at the end.

HOW did you do that??? You ARE patient! I swear, I think the bator calls my name just so that I can open it...

So far in my reading, the Hovabator is widely preferred to the LG - I got my LG from TSC because that was the only place that sold incubators locally and I was itching to hatch with not much patience!

I'm sooooo dumb, when I went to TSC, I forgot there was a way to distinguish silkies from the other chicks and I only came home with 2....darn it!!

Day 8- Tons of blood rings and all the very small not moving embryos are at the fat end of the egg....Not sure why. Getting ready to toss 7 eggs.

Is this because I cant keep my hands out of my incubator?

Awwww great find on the silkies!!! Love em! Wait till the get older, the have such a funny voice!

Now, pic one is definitely a blood ring. Pic 2 are there still veins under the ring near the air cell?

Doesnt matter. They have all been cracked open and tossed. 3 were empty inside, 3 had a mass/blob and one looked like a little chick with a large eye so I guess I really screwed up on that one. Oh well. I am still learning.

I knew they were Silkies. I had a hard time getting the ones I wanted because this TSC also had their chick area fence off and I was not allowed to pick my own chick. She said I was not allowed to touch them though I doubt she was any cleaner than I was since there was not hand sanitizer or anything. So I had to show her the ones I wanted and she kept picking up the wrong ones. I did the best I could.

My "Assorted Bantams" are going to be soooo cute :)
