Anyone Setting Eggs Tonight 3/31/2011 - Come join me if you like!

they're adorable.....and me too...I think I'm done with my hatching...only have two, soon to be three white dove eggs in the bator - some test eggs on their way...other than that, it was lovely to meet all of you and I took some notes as I did with my first hatch, from your experiences...all in the hopes of helping me learn more about hatching....

Congrats everyone on the hatches...we are done here as well...3 out of 6, not too bad...working on getting the toes on the yellow ones foot straight with band aids, other than that they are doing great....Thanks so much to EVERYONE for all the help, support, input, advice, etc...I think I will try to do one more hatch and if I don't get a good hatch rate, I won't continue....WOuld love to keep this thread going for a while if we can to check in on our little chickies every now and again...

Its all over for me.I finally broke down on day 24 and took the eggs out of the incubator. Had there been even the slightest rockin or rollin I would not have.I decided to break the eggs open. At first I didnt want to because It would saden me, but I really needed to know why? So to my dismay, 2 were alive but barely. They all appeared to be in some clear casing and had this huge yellow budlge. I assume thats the yolk they consume before they hatch? Well the yolk looked hard boiled and was just as large as the chicks. I had one chick which had what looked like his/her intestines outside the body. One was 3 times smaller the the others and 2 were horrible. WHen I cracked them open, Green oozed out. It was gross. All but two were dead when I opened the shells and the two that were not dead were clearly no where near ready for hatching and its clear to my being encased in some clear casing they would have died anyways. It really is a huge relief that this is over. It was really consuming.

So, I started with 26 eggs and I hatched out 0. I dont think there is a lessor hatch rate possible. With my Brinsea full I am not going to let this get me down. I am going to continue to learn to hatch and hopefully I will get better each time. I'm so sad that after 24 days, I have nothing to show for all my hard work and worry. I know one thing, I will NEVER use a LG ever again. Not even as a brooder.

So I guess this is goodbye!

Well my hatches are over, 9 out of 11 not bad. So sorry yours didn't make it chickenfeverforever. Here is my crew, I think I have 5 Silver Phonix, two Japanese white black tailed bantys, 1 mottled cochin, one EE and not too sure of the solid black one. JD 9-11 great, look so sweet

Aww, they are so sweet. How about a drop of polyvisol childrens vitamin on his beak, the one without iron. It might help to perk him up. That's what I do when I have a weak chick or some scrambled egg.
