Hi,

I live in Oregon and have seen Beaver brand layer pellets in several local farm stores. One place sells it for $10.50 for a 40 lb bag, which is way less than Purina and other national brands. I am looking for quality, not cheap feed, but I can't afford $30/bag for organic feed. I fed Purina Layena for the last two years, and have had problems on and off with broken eggs/egg eating. I got rid of all the confirmed egg eaters, so that problem is resolved. But I was reading through the old-timers advice thread and someone posted that egg-eaters usually/always start from nutritional deficiencies. After reading the feed labels I decided that I don't want to feed Purina anymore.

Has anyone tried Beaver brand layer pellets, and if so, what did you think of the quality? I know it is produced in the NW, but I haven't been able to find much info here or online about it.

We feed everybody Beaver Brand now. We used to use Purina (and our ducks are still on it until we have time to make it to Diess to get some more). We think it's lovely, it's much much cheaper than Purina, and the food seems a lot better quality. The scratch is even better. One time a person told us to go to Walmart to go get scratch because it was cheap, then we found Beaver Brand and it's even cheapter, for 6 grain.

We live in Harrisburg, and the only store that we've been able to find that sells it is Diess out near Veneta (actually that is almost all that they sell haha!) It's on HWY 126 I think, or whatever W 11th turns into heading out of Eugene toward Florence.

The prices I mentioned above are found at Venell Feed in Corvallis. They are a large feed mill and farm on the south outskirts of Corvallis.

I am in Prineville and I have only ever used Beaver Brand feed. My local feed store Fair Feed sells it. I think I pay $13 for a 40# bag. All my chickens are healthy and happy. They will be one year old on July 9th. They carry the layer, all purpose poultry and broiler in crumbles or pellets. I use the crumbles, it seems to last longer than the pellets. Not sure why but they eat more if I use the pellets. I don't see a reason to spend the extra money on the big name brands plus this is Oregon company and I like that idea.

I haven't tried it but was just looking it up because a customer said he had some that a friend gave him, never heard of it, but we have Payback Egg Layer Ration Pellet for 14.50 (just went off sale) and it is a 50# sack and we have a lot of happy customers. You may need some Oyster Shell to help with the eggs, which we have at our place also. Come and see us at Hwy 34 right by the tracks, Corvallis Feed & Seed, Inc. 30685 Hwy. 34, Albany, OR 541-928-1923

we use beaver brand as well and they seem happy, but I am looking for something cheaper maybe, as in maybe 100 pound barrels?
