Anyone up for a Hatchalong?

Both of mine are chirping up a storm in their eggs. Very noisy in there, sounds like a cat rolling around in a damp paper bag.
Sitting here biting my nails since they haven't pipped externally, they've been chirping since yesterday morning. I can still feel the cool air cell when I take them out, though it has shrunk a bit.

I would start by drilling a small hole in the air cell.. try not to penetrate the membrane.. use a flashlight and see if you can see anything.. also have a wet cotton swab handy to moisten the membrane in case you can't see through it

if the chick is alive check and see if there are any plump blood vessels.. if so just moisten them and put a bandaid (or something similar that allows air flow) over the hole (moisten the bandage part of it first) and leave the chick to hatch on it's own

if the chick is alive and you do not see any plump blood vessels carefully chip away part of the shell and see if the chick looks ready to hatch

if the chicks are well past the due date and haven't moved or peeped any then it sounds to me as if they died from either lack of oxygen or from bacteria

Great to hear I have stopped turning mine, they wiggle like crazy but I haven't heard any chirping yet. Air sell is still cold so there is still time left. Also I am doing sound test every day to determine if the membrane is broken.

it just means that the chick hasn't broken through the membrane.. once they do they take up the entire inside of the shell and the air cell is no longer cool to the touch

I've enjoyed reading this thread today. I have two Emu eggs at day 49. My first ones. Someone gave them to my husband to see if we could hatch them. I hatch chickens and ducks but never an Emu.

I have been turning them regularly but didn't know you could actually see them move before the hatch date. So I took them out of the incubator today to look them over good. Lo and be hold, I can hear both of them chirping and they actually moved quite a bit when I whistled to them. Absolutely ticked me to death! I had to show my husband as soon as he came home. He doesn't have very good hearing but he can hear them and then saw them move! Needlesstosay, we are excited.

Anyway, I do have a question. Since my Emus are so vocal, does that mean they have broken the air sack? I know chickens start chirping once the air sack is broken, as they are then breathing. From what I have read in this thread, it is not clear if that is the case with Emus.
